Pet Scan shows something

Posted by kamrin @kamrin, 2 days ago

Has anyone had a false positive for their Pet Scan for scc hpv 16+? Previously, I had clear margins after Tors near the tonsil and had chemoradiation, 30 radiation and 6 chemo cisplatin. Just had a pet scan and it lights up near the tonsil. My ent took another biopsy, im hoping the cancer is gone and its only inflammation.

Hey Kamrin,
It's been awhile since I've seen you on here so been wondering how you were doing as
we went through the chemoradiation treatments at the same time.
Find it hard to believe any cancer could still be alive after surgery and all the treatments you've been through.
If it were me I would ask for the NavDx blood test which scans for the HPV P16+ if your insurance would cover it .
My NavDx blood test came back negative after 3 cesplatin chemo cycles and 24 radiation treatments and last weeks PET scan showed no cancer anywhere as well.
I hope you are right and it was a bad scan of some sort.

I underwent radiation and chemo treatment in 2006. The PET scan showed a hot spot in a left lymph node. I underwent surgery as a precaution 3-months later and there was no sign of cancer in the removed lymph nodes. Either the radiation continued to do its job, or my surgery was unnecessary. I prefer to think the former. There were risks either way. Good luck

I had a PET scan 2 months after my treatments for cancer on my tongue and bilateral lymph nodes in my neck. It showed a small active spot on my liver that initially they thought was a false positive. Turns out it was a tumour on my liver.

Going for a PET scan next month (6 months after radiation ended) for tongue & lymph node cancer. A wee bit anxious about it but like everyone else in my situation I want to know one way or another if I’m cancer free (or not).
Had a Cat scan last month after an oral exam by the surgeon who operated on me in September and both the oral exam and cat scan showed no signs of infection or cancer in the areas affected.

I agree about the NavDx blood test. It is very accurate and can put your mind to ease if you get a negative result. However not all insurance companies will pay for it and It is quite expensive.
