sudden acid reflux won't go away

Posted by @ling @wangling, 5 days ago

Hi all,
I did not have acid reflux before, now suddenly I have it. It seems cough triggers it. I know Dr. Huitt's GERD RULES. It is not working for me. I would appreciate it if you share your experience how you stop it.

Thanks thanks!

After a few months on the big 3 antibiotics, I suddenly developed heartburn. It mysteriously went away after about a month. Maybe it was related to the antibiotics and digestion. It’s a mystery to me. I used an alginate called refluxRaft, which helped a lot.

@ling... I also had sudden onset of acid reflux. My pulmonologist referred me to a upper GI doctor who performed a number of procedures, including an EGD (upper endoscopy) with EndoFLIP (Functional Lumen Imaging Probe). I was diagnosed with a sliding hiatal hernia. Just a thought...

Please reach out if you have any questions.

@jbix, @debinutah , Thank you for sharing your experience. I was thinking it might be related to azithromycin I took for almost a year to prevent the flare ups. I stopped it a few weeks ago. I hope the reflux goes away like yours. Because my diet has been pretty much on the alkaline side.

@ling, when you have reflux, it is best to avoid albuterol if you can.

@gigiv & @wangling I think the acid reflux cautions are true for some people with nebulized albuterol, but this topic is best discussed with you pulmonologist before making any medication changes.
