PMR: heartbeat so strong it shakes my hands/arms

Posted by pmrnew @pmrnew, May 3 9:36am

does anyone have any feedback please? My heartbeat is so strong it shakes my whole body. Not irregular, not skipping, just super strong. I am now regularly taking blood pressure readings as it felt like high BP could be the cause. All between 117-129 over mid 70s I might be stressed but does not feel like it. Sometimes resting in bed it just feels like the whole body moves to my heartbeat. OK, I was diagnosed with PMR a few months ago, so maybe over sensitive to healthy living.

@kayabbott Having your blood pressure spike is scary. I imagine it would catch you off guard.

I had times I would be sitting at my desk working and my blood pressure would spike. I was alerted by an extreme pinching feeling in my right arm. I looked at the arm in time to see my skin color got super light. I waited 5 minutes then checked the pressure, repeated and it dropped to a safer place. I never felt pulsing.

Where on your body did you feel pounding when your blood was so elevated? Were you taking any medications at the time?

@jlharsh My heart felt like it was trying to pound its way out of my chest for a few hours, then back to normal and I had minor chest pain, no other symptoms. It was 100% long covid, started right after covid slapped me around in March 2023. No meds, I was an avid cyclist and normal BP was about 120/70 and HR 55. My cardo stress test was normal, and the doctor just had me ramp down exercising till the LC was gone. The pounding went away after 9 mo.
