I am 73 years old & just switched from osteopena to osteoporosis. The doctor did not give me a score.
I have had numerous health issues since I got COVID for the second time in 2024. Lost 40 lbs & having more test at Emory for pancreas.

1 ReactionI am 73 years old & just in last year got osteoporosis. I have had H-pylori at age 30 which caused ulcers & all kinds of gastro problems. IBS, diverticulitis and problems with pancreas. Being treated at Emory for pancreas problems. Cancer of pancreas runs in family. I just can't take anymore meds.
@susan73 Can you discuss with your doctor taking Vit K (specifically MK4) ? The Japanese have been using this for years against osteoporosis and have done studies that you can access on PubMed to take and discuss with your doc. Also there are new studies about the use of specific types of collagen that increase bone density that are very promising. These are the two main more natural approaches that I can think of that might not stress your kidneys so much, but please discuss with your doc....

2 Reactions@lbakerreill83 I declined Fosamax after reading articles saying it offered minimal benefits as far as fracture prevention. It slows down the loss of bone but also slows down the formation of new bone. Your DEXA may appear better, but you could have older, more brittle bones.
Here are some articles that may be of interest.

So many of us who have taken bone meds for awhile were started on fosomax. The new thinking is that how drugs are sequenced is very important and starting with a bisphosphonate may hamper the positive outcomes of bone building drugs/anabolics. Do your research.
@gravity3 Very true. Some insurance companies won't pay for other drugs unless Fosamax is used first, which is unfortunate.

1 ReactionYes want to know more about Thyrve Nad+
@njx58 there are several things that can be done to improve bone health no matter the declination. Look up osteo strong to see if it is in your area. Supplements, weight training, and other forms of exercise are helpful. Let's try to support people and not say their plight is hopeless. It's not.
