Lung lobectomy

I had a lower right lobectomy seven months ago. The results showed that I had inflammation, but no cancer. The information I find online is about lobectomy due to cancer. Has anyone had a lobectomy for inflammation only? I am getting confusing messages from doctors. One said I don’t need any follow up; another said I should have CT scans every year. I am interested in hearing about other people’s experiences.

@bogy There was some pain after the lobectomy, but it was not too bad. I took gabapentin, methocarbamol and Tylenol for two weeks after the surgery.

@lls8000 drs found a second d nodule in lower right lung. With early stage emphazema. Going for a pet scan soon. A lot of thi gs are going g through my mind. Radiation or surgery if it is cancer. Just wa Ted to know if surgery was painful. Dr me tiobed raduation and/or surgery. Very scary for ne.

Thank you for your reply. I was told the lobectomy was necessary to make certain there was no cancer, due to the location of the inflammation. I want to hear from other people who have had lobectomy without cancer, regarding follow-up care, CT scan results, etc.

@debcain3121 I had a lower left lobe lobectomy 3 years ago. I was experiencing shortness of breath, and my CT scans looked like I had pneumonia. After not clearing up after a few rounds of antibiotics and prednisone, my pulmonologist sent me to a surgeon for a biopsy to rule out cancer. Turned out it wasn’t cancer, but an earlier sputum test came back MAC of the lungs ( sputum test takes a while to come back) The right way to treat MAC is with 18 months to 2 years of taking 3 different, heavy duty antibiotics, surgery is a last resort. The surgeon just responded, my lungs weren’t clearing up, so he “cut it out”. I think I had surgery that wasn’t needed….

@bogy , try not to get too far ahead. It’s easy to jump to the worst case scenario, but it’s not always reality. It sounds like your doctors are taking the best next steps with the PET scan. They’ll have a better look at what’s happening, and can advise you best on what’s needed next if anything. Take care.

@bogy , try not to get too far ahead. It’s easy to jump to the worst case scenario, but it’s not always reality. It sounds like your doctors are taking the best next steps with the PET scan. They’ll have a better look at what’s happening, and can advise you best on what’s needed next if anything. Take care.
