Chronic Post Nasal Drip
Hello; I am a 46 yo male. I have had Eustachian tube since age two. 40+ typanostomy placements bilaterally. 4 cholesteatomas remove with tympanoplasty, twice each side. One year ago I started experiencing post nasal drip. It led to bronchitis and then pneumonia. My ENT sent me to their allergist, I was mildly allergic to grass. Started two nasal sprays, a steroid and an antihistamine. There was no improvement. ENT did a CT of my sinuses found blockage and performed a septoplasty, and opened my turbinites. Surgery did wonders for my breathing; however the post nasal drip is still happening. I am constantly sniffing stuff at the back of my throat/nose into my throat. It is incredibly thick (consistency of rubber cement) which then gets into my upper airway causing me to constantly clear my throat. The only relief I get is if I lay my head over the edge of the bed, fill my nose with saline for 5 minutes then blow my nose and repeat. This alleviates the symptoms for 10 or 15 minutes. The water that is discharged from my nose is clear, however if you reach your hand in the bowl you can grab a handful of clear mucus. It bad enough that if I am not constantly nibbling on something I get sick to my stomach. It annoys everyone around me as expected. It also gets better at night when I am laying down. I use a CPAP and I don’t wake up feeling like I have PND; however within 5 minutes of standing up It starts up. I have a humidifier in my room as that was a suggestion. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you in advance

I have CRS (no polyps) that has gradually worsened overtime since it began in 2022. I have the same symptoms as listed above; PND, rubber cement. It started as thick mucus feeling in nasopharynx but now it's always stuck in other areas of my nasal passages and/or I'm highly sensitive to it. My ENT didn't offer antibiotic/steriod at first, either. Septoplasty/turbinate reduction surgery was suggested at my very 1st appointment, 2nd appointment was just to do CT scan to confirm the need for surgery, and 3rd appointment was literally the surgery. A culture test wasn't even done until two months after surgery. Six months after surgery I still had problems so they tried radiofrequency ablation on the posterior nasal nerve, to no luck. By now, I've tried every spray, OTC and prescription, steriods, antibiotics, humidifier, purifier, Allergist and shots, etc.. It's's been a year and 3 months since surgery and I still have problems with my nose/sinuses, except now it's so bad that I lost my career job from missing too many days or hours. It's a daily thing that takes 1.5-3 hours, up to three times a day, to clear. On bad days I spend 4-6 hours straight just rinsing and trying to clear, without a break. Meanwhile, my ENT says they've done all they can for me so I'm looking for a new one. Im convinced I'm living in hell. My 12 year olds both hate me for being "sick" so often because they don't understand it, nobody understands it. It's ruined my physical and mental health, my family, my income, and financial stability. Sorry, to ramble on with my story, I only meant to comment the first part. Lol.
...am a poster on other sites but saw this and interested as spouse, male, has had pnd for couple of years.... but not quite the same.... reading your posts .. it must be horrible for sure and hope you get the help you need. He is 72 and this starteed sort of out of the blue... but is on 12 daily meds from colesterol, to water pill for heart, had 3 bypasses.... and diabetic. They can put someone on the moon but cannot "fix" many illnesses and medical issues... his is like water and constantly dabbing nose while up and awake and the skin gets sore.. but he has not seen a dr for it as has so many other issues... maybe I missed it, but does anyone smoke: he does unfortunately but with only a few pleasures in life (yes it is a pleasure as well as an addiction) he has no intention of stopping.. I sometimes wondered if it was that. Hope someone else reading your stories can offer help, J.
@kandtwins Please have a dentist or endodontist check your upper, especially back teeth (look up odotogenic sinusitis). Mine was missed on a sinus CT. Need a CBCT scan to detect the abscessed tooth causing the problem.
Yup yup and yup. Mine was partly due to GERD. Yes I know. I always get the weird stuff turs put that like 20% don't get classic symptoms and never even know they had it and the damage kept going. Changing diet and a pill that begins with an m that's very long I don't remember and most of it's gone. The drop that is
