I am very unhappy with my GI here in Dallas. Can I transfer care to the GI I saw ay Mayo?

Hard to answer that question; it may depend on what you were treated for. Often, once a Mayo provider has provided a diagnosis and treatment plan, care is then transferred back home to be carried out by a local provider.

When you saw the GI provider at Mayo, did they diagnose you and develop a treatment plan?
If you have a question for the provider you saw, you can always use the patient portal.

@patz I asked this same question when we moved from Arizona to Washington State in 2023. I had been seeing a Mayo GI for over 10 years as my primary GI.

I was told that they really preferred I had a local GI or practice who could actually see me in person or if I were hospitalized.

I looked at the local GI office, and found someone who had done their Fellowship at Mayo Rochester, and that is now my primary GI.

It's worth asking you Mayo GI, but that was the answer I got.

It really depends. I was referred to both Urology and Endocrinology back in 2021. I go for an annual CT scan on my kidneys and Mayo seems to have taken over my case. Because of BPH they referred me to one of their Urologists. I also make an annual mecca to endocrinology. After one visit I got a call from the endo's office suggesting that I have my PCP refer me to their spine center. I said that I consider Dr Soandso to be my PCP at Mayo. Her response was oh really? Dr Soandso is a wonderful lady and doctor.

If it's easy for you to see them I would ask my doc there F2F if they would be my primary there.

@irishk

I see Nicholas K. Weber, MD at GastroHealth. He did his Fellowship in Rochester (2011-2014).

Susan, thank you, so you are also in Oly.

I also go to GastroHealth, Dr. Leonard.

In 2012, I saw a Gastroenterologist at Mayo, Rochester. Forget his name but have it written down some place. Was back there w my bro who was having a stem cell transplant so saw a few Drs myself.

Another option is to see if a clinic in your area is part of Mayo Clinic Care Network. The Mayo Clinic Care Network helps keep care local by providing guidance and answers to many questions that might otherwise require a specialist referral.
These hospitals have full access to Mayo Clinic’s knowledge and expertise. This spares patients the expense and inconvenience of additional appointments and unnecessary travel. https://www.mayoclinic.org/about-mayo-clinic/care-network/network-members
