I am on Forteo injections. I beginning to think this is a money maker.

I’ve been on Forteo for about 4 to 5 months and all I’ve been having is flu like symptoms. I’m still on and off. I’ve been having the jaw pain teeth pain like all my teeth hurt, sensitive teeth, my legs. I had previous fracture in my legs from a car accident and my legs hurt, but this on this medication so much all my muscles, including in my arms hurt like everything hurts and I’m wondering now if there’s a natural way to do this I’m wondering if this is a money maker cause I’m seeing that a lot of people are saying that these things do not help cure anything they just help maintain but a lot of people are having more breaks and then once you’re up, it really gets worse because they say that it like regresses after you get off the medication or injections so what good is that if I’m taking an injection and then I get off the injection and start taking natural stuff it’s saying that it regresses your bones more so what’s the sense of being on it if it’s gonna make it worse in the end I don’t wanna go on reclast, or prolia i’ve had many kidney problems in the past and I have an autoimmune disorder with thyroid, graves, disease, and just worrying about all this it’s just like I’m wondering if I should just go on like algaecal or goat, milk powder or something more natural because I just feel like this is a money market like they’re making you take these injections. They get get money and parts out of it, but it really is not doing anything. People who’ve been on this injections and medication stuff have known to have more fractures, loose teeth, job pain, all kinds of dental problems. I mean all kinds and I’m just wondering if it’s even worth it is it better just to take proper calcium D3, and K2’s and stuff I don’t know what to do and I cannot take calcium bicarbonate because that causes kidney stones and I almost had kidney failure because of all my kidney stones. I haven’t had any in a long time and I don’t want anymore and I’m just trying to figure out what to do anybody have any help with natural stuff instead of injections that are actually working and I’m hearing too that the DEXA scans aren’t accurate either I don’t know what to think and I don’t know what to believe any input please thank you

@vmcgrantham I don't know about kickbacks, she's probably just following protocol. Do you know your DEXA scores and have you ever fractured? If you haven't fractured and your DEXA score isn't too bad, tell your Dr you want to take a break from medications to do more research and decide what you want to do. Bones change very slowly, so taking a year to decide what to do is reasonable, in my opinion. My DEXA scores are severe, -4.1 in my spine and -2.7 in my hips. I have parathyroid issues so can't take Forteo or Tymlos. I read Fosamax doesn't offer much as far as fracture prevention, so I decided not to take any drugs. I'm 76 and have never fractured. My Dr wants me to take Fosamax, even said he'd prescribe 1/2 the normal dose, but he respects my opinion to refuse meds at this time. I'm taking a lot of supplements and hoping my DEXA scores at least stay the same and don't progress.

@daisy17 I never fractured my bones myself, but I had it, but made it a brick wall and broke my fifth in both legs, but I was doing OK. I did get pain in the ankles on and off from it but being on forteo it hurts all over and I mean all over and I don’t know about the any other she will give me a choice about the other one that you were just talking about she’s telling me the Reclast or prolia there was a website that somebody gave me to look up if they do get kicked back or not and I did look it up and she is on that list so I don’t know but she gets more out of the forteo and she gets a lot of Reclast. In the winter time is cold out cause I’m gonna go State summer comes. I’m OK for spring settle down. I’m so I do have that kind of time but that deals with muscle and nurses because they say their muscles strict every time cold with the humidity over rain, but they said my phone cause I’m in physical therapy still the muscle cause I have weak muscle from my coming out of picking up thyroid medicine as soon as I walked out the door put me right into the big wall I was coming right out the door, so yeah, broken tib and fib in the pain in the back one doctor said that i will back pain down the road and I do have degenerative in my back but mild to moderate in some I have been taking D3,K2, and calcium but need to watch calcium because of my kidneys. And my calcium test shows 9.6 higher end of normal level which is 10.2 so calcium good I don’t know what to do. she says after getting off, forteo ,I should return to normal but I read it could take weeks. I wonder if she is saying that she can say it’s not the shots go back on it . I really don’t know

@vmcgrantham OK, you need to please stop talking about your doctor taking bribes to prescribe Forteo. The doctors only have a few choices when it comes to osteoporosis medication. You unfortunately have several health issues you're dealing with, and it's possible that ANY medication would be a problem.

I would look for a new endocrinologist who specializes in osteoporosis.

@raelenewilma I agree with you. I haven’t even started it yet but I’ve been doing a lot of research and I don’t go by what just the Internet says I go by with the actual company so when I looked up Forteo, I looked them up. I looked up rec class class is worse than the other one it has more kidney issues. I can’t afford to have kidney failure. I went through kidney stones and kidney failure. I don’t need to go through that again. That was excruciating painful and jaw necrosis no thank you I can’t handle that so I don’t wanna do that either. I’ve been doing my research and I thought about the Tymlos but my doctor absolutely said no that would hurt my kidneys too. The problem is with all this stuff is see some of these doctors get kickbacks and I didn’t know that I was talking to somebody else on drugs.com and you pull it in the things and you can get things that people have gone through and this lady gave me a website to look up to see if my doctor is getting a kick back from selling either this drug or any of the drugs that she keeps pushing on me and she keeps pushing it like she just won’t let me give up on it. She wants me on one of the other and then she’s telling me that I’m gonna have more bone problems and stuff. Maybe I will maybe I won’t. I’m still taking my calcium my D3 K2’s and the sick thing is is that an order for it to leave your bloodstream to go into your bones you have to have D3 in K2, which is more important than anything else or these shots or nothing because they don’t go directly into the bones they go to your bloodstream, but I looked it up and my Dr is getting a kickback. They’re getting money for everyone they sell, which is sick so their pockets are more important than my health.

After all my research on osteo drugs my conclusion is that there isn't any osteo drug out there that is safe. I agree that drs just dont want to weigh in on this. There isn't enough data collected about evenity side effects bc it's relatively new. Those of us who are taking evenity now are the data. I've had 4 months of injections and I never know what side effects to expect now or 3-5 years from now except that i have to get Reclast infusions every six months to maintain the improvement in my bone health. It's risky and expensive. I've been seriously considering stopping treatment and continuing with supplements and exercise. So many unknowns about osteo drugs...so many different side effects...so many concerns.

@klpco Your statement isn't true for everyone. The majority of people who have used these drugs have done so safely, and with little or no side effects. There is a percentage who have issues, no question, but making generalized statements like "these drugs aren't safe" is not helpful. It's your experience, and I don't discount it, but it's not everyone's experience.
