Mohs surgery

@cm4713 So much depends on how the procedure will be done, the direction of the incision, etc. I have had several MOHS procedures done in awkward locations. The resulting scar shows to me that my skin "stretched" as needed. And sometimes there is a skin graft done, but that hasn't been my experience.

Are you scheduled for upcoming MOHS surgery? What does your doctor have to say about discomfort and the healing process?

Developed by Dr. Frederic Mohs in the 1930s at the University of Wisconsin, Mohs surgery revolutionized skin cancer treatment through precise, microscopic margin control. Prior to Mohs surgery, surgical specimens would be evaluated by the pathologist by taking multiple “random” sections and inspecting them under the microscope. If those specimens showed no tumor at the margins or depth of the excision, it would be reported “clear margins”. Unfortunately “random sections” too often missed tumor extensions. Fred Mohs developed the technique where 100% of the margins and base of the excised specimen was examined under the microscope as opposed to “random” sections. Two advantages. It is more accurate in detecting clear margins with better cure rates and can decrease the need for removing excess tissue.

Recurrence rate is lower with Mohs. Skilled Mohs surgeons usually produce
results comparable or better than standard excisions and are experienced
performing closures of wounds.

My Mohs surgeries are on my legs, specifically my shins.
Since there is no skin to suture, I have open wounds, it was recommended to me by Mayo to see Wound Care.
That was the best recommendation ever.
Since I have had over 20 Mohs surgeries on my legs.
