Diet, lifestyle changes and medications for osteoporosis treatment

Wondering who has found a good diet and recipes to aid in osteoporosis. I've been researching the best foods and there is so much out there. Trying to find one good source that I can use as my go to for recipes and information.

Hi. Your correct. Now I’m wondering why the functional md says to stay away from them. She even told me stories about negative impact of hummus. But, your right.

Ridiculous amount of conflicting info to wade through…..meds with side effects and interactions with other meds or medical conditions…all kinds of supplements,and snake oil alerts online…. Trying to balance various health conditions is challenging…I’m leaning toward separating out D3, and K2, as blended supplements have so many other things I might not need/want. Wishing everyone good luck, as we are on our own to sort some of this out- docs don’t have the time..so I try to come up with the best focused questions for them in our limited time together.

We do need to find any way we can to get moving, very hard for some…focused exercises, resistance and some weights do help…balance is of great importance ! It seems like a lot, but anything we can proactively do for ourselves is worth the time and effort….depending on diet or pills isn’t quite enough. Good luck everyone, let’s dance our way to better bones !

I bought the osteoporosis diet cookbook for seniors by Ovia Cooper. I use it so much and sometimes just look up different recipes for salmon, chicken ect.. the book has a 28 day meal plan and grocery list each week

@gen55
I did purchase from amazon but I just looked for it and it’s not there anymore. I think any of those cookbooks would be good that have recipes for osteoporosis. Mine is simple recipes but I think other books have them also

@nycmusic Thanks for an uplifting suggestion! We all need a bit a cheering up. If you add weight-bearing exercise you are on a winning streak!

@vixstermoves
Hello. Your functional MD said to stay away from chickpeas/hummus?

@gen55 I am 76 and have severe osteoporosis. I can't take Tymlos or Forteo. Doctor prescribed alendronate, which I refused after reading about the side effects and studies showing it offers minimal prevention against fractures.
