Post COVID Vaccine Adverse Effects/Chronic Respiratory Alkalosis
Please read and if anyone has similar symptoms post vaccine I would like to hear your story. I could write a book what I have been through.
Shortly after receiving the Pfizer COVID Vaccines in April/May 2021 my endurance went off a cliff. I was healthy Marathon and Ironman Athlete recognized by Ironman as an All World Age Group Athlete finishing in top 10% of my age group. That all stopped after the vaccines, I could no longer work out without high heart rate, 4 months after the 2nd shot I got a blood clot in my right calf, went on blood thinner, then daily low dose aspirin. I gained 20lbs not being able to work out and now on a daily med that lowers my heart rate just to work out and on 2 blood pressure meds. I also have nerve pain in lower legs that affects my sleep each night.
I can no longer run, bike or swim anything like I used to and can no longer do marathons or Ironman races.
Others told me they feel like a shell of themselves and I feel the same, totally took my lifestyle away.
I tried to come off the med that lowers my heart rate and did a few runs and my heart rate running 10 mins per mile was in the low 160’s which is over 30bpm higher than pre-vaccines. It seems I may need to be in this med for life.
I am in my 4th year at Mayo Aerospace Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. I have made some progress but do not know what is driving my symptoms post vaccines.
I have been diagnosed with Chronic Respiratory Alkalosis and was first put on Aacetzolamide but side effects were two great with the fatigue and not wanting to get out of bed, then went on Methazolamide but got deep bloodshot left eye and ringing/hissing in my ears when increased the dose, told to stop and then went on Cellebrex which have seen no difference on or off this med.
I can no longer run 1 mile at pace I used to run marathons at, weird this is that if I stop running for even 10-15 seconds and then start running again I am like I used to be but then slow down less than two minutes later, same with swimming, 1st 25 yards are effortless but then I slow down, if I stop swimming for even 10 secs and start again I feel great, but then slow down again. I can workout out with taking the heart med but can only get to a certain point working out and no further gains like I used to.
Before the vaccines I had just started training for another Ironman and was telling my coach I was feeling great and he said you are swimming, cycling and running faster than the last one but all that changed after the vaccines.
I also participated in a research study and Mayo for long COVID even though my issues are from the vaccines, I had cognitive tests, heart rate tests and cranial ultrasound. The first cranial ultrasound showed low blood flow to my brain but after two weeks on breathing machine with 5 mins on room air and 5 mins with increased Co2 my cranial ultrasound showed blood flow to the brain in normal range but not sure months later if still on normal range.
I am due for follow up with Aerospece Clinic in Scottsdale in July for further care plan.
I cannot count how many test tubes of blood I have had drawn, have had countless tests, doctor visits over last 5 years but will never give up my quest to get back to the athlete I used to be and my lifestyle that was taken away from me.

Similar experience. I count myself vaccine injured in November 2021 where I went from 6 days in the gym to no days in the gym, because if I exercised, I crashed for hours. Shortest story, years of chasing the wrong rabbit and dozens of medical professionals test results all normal until Dr. Patterson suggested I test for Lyme and Mold. Came back Mold Illness and I am treating for that at about 4 months and getting back to normal. Mold Illness can occur regardless of geography, even places like Arizona. Best wishes and I hope you find your particular root cause.
I had a similar experience. I was healthy, working in my career in healthcare, I was training for a half marathon and I loved working out at Orange Theory 5 days a week. Loved going for walks and runs. Loved walking my dogs. Got the first Pfizer vaccine feeling slightly apprehensive but was reassured by media, medical community, scientists, governments, everyone in every facet of life that it was safe and effective. Working in healthcare career I believed the campaign. Literally 4 days after the shot I suddenly became systemically sick. Like crumbled during a zoom staff meeting. Headache, temporary vision loss in one eye, blurred vision, dizziness, weakness, I couldn’t walk properly because of it. Tachacardia not only when walking but at rest. All the time, bending down to pick something up or pat my dog would literally make me sick and dizzy and out of breath. Internal tremors, profound fatigue loud tinnitus buzzing in my ears especially falling into crashes/sleep and waking up. I got weird rashes. I could not read, concentrate and even had difficulty talking and thinking. This did not go away and despite all this my GP denied the vaccine caused it. Pushed for the second shot. The ER doctors denied the vaccine caused this. The specialists I saw gaslit me. Took the second shot because I believed what I was being told and within 24 hours I was in an ambulance with heart cramping chest pain sweating profusely and SOB. Still denial, ignored. Fast forward, I have never been able to work out again, I am chronically sick, I still can’t go for a walk without feeling unwell and dizzy. Still have loud ringing in my ears. PT for vestibular issues did not help. I was dx with PPPD; Chronic Fatigue; a year ago because of my pushing my GP I finally found a Rhumatologist who sent me for the right tests and they confirmed Lupus SLE and Sjogren’s Disease. I haven’t been able to work out since except I tried Pilates and that went well for about a year. I’m a competitive personality and I might have pushed myself too far and developed pain that I couldn’t tolerate and that lead to the Lupus dx. The pain began when I was taken off Amytriptaline (had been on it for years for migraines) I had developed numbness in my toes, going up my calves and my fingers and hands. Burning sensation tingling. Even in my face. My hair began falling out diffusely, lost 29 pounds without trying. The pain in muscle and joints and weakness in my legs was shocking. So I understand completely what your going through. Your not alone in this. Get your ANA checked to look for autoimmune conditions, try Pilates but gentle on a reformer so your supported but still getting some exercise without your heart rate going crazy.
What makes all this worse is being treated like you’re crazy by the medical community. Your NOT! Keep looking for answers…I am taking Natokinese; Bromelein and Curcumin/Tumeric. It’s supposed to help with the spike but I’m not sure that it is. Good luck to you!
