Passing away is a severe quality of life issue. A urostomy is a minor inconvenience. I preferred it to neobladder (not getting up at night to empty, no pelvic floor muscle training, no manual urine retrieval). But for some neobladders work out great. To each their own.

2 Reactions@jaxfl, it is nice to hear your perspective. I envisioned my bladder as a soggy bag of pain and infection. I was not sorry to see it go. I’ve adjusted well to the urostomy and like you didn’t wanna fiddle with a neo bladder I’m 77 and so don’t mind wearing loose clothes to just avoid questions and stares at my urostomy bag I wear a night bag so don’t have to get up in the night three times anymore. I do have post urostomy nerve pain which feels like a full bladder and I need to urinate however I’m working on that and hopefully it’ll get better otherwise I’ve recovered nicely from the surgery. It took much longer than I expected, however.

3 ReactionsSorry about the nerve issue. I rarely experience that. But I sometimes do and can relate.

3 ReactionsI also do not care about whether people see it or not. That is their problem. Not mine.
I am 77 yr old otherwise healthy and active female diagnosed late 2024 w/ MIBC and now facing radical cystectomy plus removal of adjacent lymph nodes and trunk to decide b/t neobladder or ileal conduit and would like to hear especially from females about their experience. Was originally leaning toward neobladder but am concerned about possible complications . thanks.
