Tymlos side effects I've encountered
Hi. I started Tymlos in February 2022 and about a month after starting it I began experiencing excruciating muscle spasms, esp in upper thighs and feet, neuropathy, as well as debilitating hip, leg, and back pain. My doctor wanted me to try and stay on it for at least a year, but I absolutely could not go on living with the pain I experienced. I stopped taking the Tymlos completely 6 days ago and all my symptoms have subsided. Has anyone else experienced these side effects while on Tymlos?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m 68-year-old male who was just put on Tymlos. I take my shots in the evening. I started at two clicks and increased to eight clicks over the next three nights. The next morning, I had a pretty bad headache that lasted all day. The same has been true the next three days. I am curious if others have experienced headaches. The side effects don’t indicate that is very common for men but more so for women. As it’s the weekend, I can’t get in touch with my doctor, but I may reduce my dose tonight to see if that helps. Thank you.
jbcat, the endocrinologist I see thinks the effect is from high serum calcium levels (the drug's mechanism) expanding the blood vessels in the head. You might try taking some salt with the injection , a couple of olives, caffeine can help, better not at night though. Both constrict your blood vessels.
You might go back to your lowest comfortable dose for a while or skip one night first. Your body may adjust but I think it's better not to suffer meanwhile.
I was in my 2nd year of tymlos when I had excruciating muscle spasms in my inner thighs. On a scale of 1-10 they were 20! I now understand tetany and why people with cramps die while swimming! I couldn't move --it was so painful. I lowered my dose, and lowered it again. I also had terrible pain in my knees, my gait changed. I finally stopped the tymlos and I no longer have toe/foot cramps, muscle spasms or knee pain. I was 3 months shy of staying on for 2 years. I've been off for a little over a month.

2 ReactionsA lot of have side effects for the first two months and they “magically” subside after two months. I had to stop and start again myself, iterating up over a few weeks to the full dose. Changed from morning to night injections. Also a change of bone medications may be an option. After my own experiences I found pressing my doctors for more attention, research and contacting the pharmaceutical company was beneficial. I’m sticking with it and my symptoms mostly disappeared. The two years going super quick!

2 Reactions@loriesco Sone symptoms subsided after 2 months, but I’m now finishing my 3 rd month and still have a racing heart rate and terrible lower back pains for 30 minutes after the injection. So tired of it and ready to give up.
@jbcat26 I had the headaches for the first month, then they went away.
@feebee1955 Hi, thanks. Im curious; did you titrate up to 80mcg over time. I'm wondering if I should have started at 20mcg for a longer period and gradually increased versus going from 20 to 80 in the first week.
