Finishing Evenity, now what?
I am on my 11th shot with only 1 to go. I am going to pay out of pocket for a new Dexa scan and hopefully I see some improvements, I also have my endocrinologist appointment after my last shot. I know everyone is different but what was your treatment after evenity? What questions should I be asking? My last conversation with my endocrinologist was we need to start reclast after my last shot but I'm confused because I started Evenity to avoy reclast so I'm at a loss at what other options I could have? If you have any advise I'd appreciate it.

I don’t have any advice on that but your Dr can use a different diagnosis code so you can get a DEXA after a year. Unfortunately I don’t know that code, but the Dr I just consulted with suggested Evenity for my OP and I asked if I could do another scan at a year and she said yes she can do this by changing the code. It’s worth asking them about.

2 ReactionsIn 2022 I began Evenity the month before my last Evista injection .
The Evista brought me out of osteoporosis into osteopenia.
I have remained on a daily dose of Evenity and the DEXA shows that I am still in osteopenia.
That is what has worked for me.
I cannot recommend this for you, but it is an option you may wish to discuss with your medical team.

@ibmrgan44. Are you on a daily dose of Evenity? Just curious as I thought it was once monthly. @kay15, Evista is a bone building (mainly) but also can prevent some bone loss. After finishing Eventiy some doctors recommend Reclast to prevent the bone loss or "lock in" in the bone loss. Even though you built bone with Evenity your reason for getting osteoporosis or osteopenia is still there (with most people it is partly due to estrogen loss among other factors) . I took Evenity last year with improvement on my DEXA and took a IV of Reclast 3/25.
An anti-resorptive like Reclast is recommended to preserve any gains that resulted from Evenity. After stopping Evenity, your bones resume the process of breaking down. This is more pronounced after competing anabolic therapy as your bone metabolism has just completed a period of bone growth which prompts it to balance out by bone resorption.
I just completed twelve months of Evenity and will have a Reclast infusion one month after. This will be followed by annual infusions for two more years.
Some endocrinologists will prescribe Fosamax instead or Prolia.
@oopsiedaisy do you know how 3 rounds of Reclast was determined? How could it be determined in advance without knowing what happens to your bones after the first (and second) infusion? Will you have DEXAs or BTMs done as you go along to monitor? And what happens after the 3rd and presumably last Reclast? Drug holiday? Thanks.
My plan is Reclast after Evenity too. Reason is that the gains with Evenity are short lived unless Reclast is given to "cement " the gains.
I read about this and it appears this is an important step to take. I am not thrilled but it seems preparing for the Reclast infusions can help mitigate side effects.

Fortunately, my results after 6 months of Evenity were good but I would like another one once I am done which will be May
@cat1203 That’s a good question and I don’t have the answer. I will have to ask my doctor.
I’m hoping to take a break after the 3 years of Reclast. My next DEXA won’t be until 2028.
My endocrinologist does check my CTX levels so I suspect I’ll have another test after the Reclast to see if it’s acceptable. It’s 108 now after the Evenity and it was around 350 when I started Evenity. That was after six months of Tymlos and Forteo, too.
