Does anyone suffer from Crohn's or colitis?
I got diagnosed with Chrons disease back in January I’m 56 years old got it unexpectedly from eating something that caused food poisoning and I never got better. Ended up in the ER in December and my body just shut down. I’m on the mend getting better everyday but I’m skeptical about the medication they put me on! Bad side effects!

It doesn't take long to find out if gluten is smacking your GI or other systems around. When I went completely GF the (pre colitis) GI problems went away in a few days, the rashes and enlarged lymph nodes in a couple of weeks, and others a few months. Some people try an elimination diet, basically taking food choices down to the basics and gradually adding things to see how your system reacts. Even some meds can cause flares; I only have to take baby aspirins for a couple of days for my GI tract to react. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/elimination-diet
I’ve been diagnosed over the last 10 years with Chrons and anklosying spondylitis. I’ve been on several biologics. None have worked, I’m starting tremfya today. Do you have abdominal pain? What are your symptoms, and what medications are you on?
I have had Crohn's for over 40 yrs but it is remission and I take nothing for it. May I strongly suggest you read about LDN on the internet and consider giving it a try. I have been on it for 8 yrs at 2mg a day and have no side effects.
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s in March, so I am very new to this. Currently doing infusion therapy using Inflectra, finished a round of steroids and antibiotics. Trying to figure out my diet and how best to manage the pain that comes with a flare…had one earlier this week. Ugh. I have a couple questions for you more experienced Crohners.
Anyone been working with a nutritionalist/dietician?
Also, I have read that cannabis and/or CBD can be quite effective treating/alleviating symptoms…anyone had experience with this? I understand can help but my GI tract doesn’t tolerate it well.
Please share your thoughts…
@jojoscott20 Welcome to Connect. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in 1981, had a total colectomy in 1986, and in 2015 the diagnosis was changed to Crohn's Disease (CD) after it became evident I had disease in my small intestine.
I have been on Humira since 2016, which got me into remission, and haven't had any side effects so far.
The short answer is everyone is different, and foods that work for one person are intolerable for others, medications the work for some may be useless for others, even symptoms of flare ups can be different.
There is no firm evidence that medical marijuana can get you into remission, but some small studies suggest it might help your symptoms.

I have worked with a nutritionist and I recommend seeing one. Keeping a food log so you have a record of what might be triggering pain is a good first step.
I wish I could tell you there was a magic cure (I wish there was one), but there are at least more effective medications than in the 1980s.
I found the Mayo Talks podcasts on IBD to be very informative. They are targeted at the general practitioner, but I think they are understandable to the lay person.

2 ReactionsI have had Crohn's for 40 years. After an attack on my small intestine that wouldn't heal, I tried Low Dose Naltrexone. I am now in remission and have had good colonoscopies. I've been on it for 8 yrs. Read about it.

Hi, I have been dealing with microscopic colitis for over 12 years. Gone to Specialists and done all the steroids, binders etc. Steroids costly so I looked for something that might work. I started Hemp Seed Oil Capsules. I have been using for over a year and so happy! I take 2 in the morning, have my coffee first and usually go to the washroom once for the day. I eat whatever I want, no fats excessively. It may not be right for everyone but worth the try!!
They cost about 40 dollars a month.
@polly2079 You can order on Amazon
@polly2079
Which ones do you order and do you take them during a flare? If so, how long for them to work?
@pichulita
Hi, it is extra strength 60 capsules 60,000 mil. White and green bottles says HEMP OIL. I have not had flare up, no bloating, hope it works for you as well. It takes just a few days to start working. Good luck
