Botox?
Well, that was interesting.
I went to get my flu jab. (work pays for it, so I just popped over to head office & joined the queue).
Turns out the girl who did it is a urology nurse.
Nice long chat about prostatectomy & AUS.
She knew the surgeon that did mine & also told me that the one who did the AUS is now retired.
Anyway... got talking about post-AUS incontinence (which is still a problem) and she asked if I'd had Botox.
Ummm... what?
Turns out that not only does it get rid of wrinkles, it also relaxes the bladder.
Does it work?
A bit late for April Fools.

Yeah I would be careful with that one. Be sure you investigate with reputable medical sources before you take the jab.
Search this forum, Peter, before you do anything. Pretty sure someone a week or two ago had Botox and it made things worse!
I mean, you are paralyzing a muscle so how is that gonna help?
Phil
Botox was originally used for medically necessary conditions not cosmetic ones. Spasm of the eye lid (blepharospasm / Meige (sp?) syndrome) and anal fissures that would not heal. It's temporary.
It has more recently been used for migraine headaches. That area requires quite a delicate technique. Its use in medical non-cosmetic applications requires supervised training beyond a weekend seminar. Only consider a center of excellence and follow the modified aphorism of Condy Rice "Distrust and Verify" the purported training ...in writing.

1 ReactionAsk your doctor about what medicines might help if you have not tried them. There are a bunch that relax bladder (Detrol ER, Gemtesa, Myrbetriq, Oxybutynin ER) and about 5 or 6 more. Many have generics.
@heavyphil Oh. Thanks, Phil. Last thing I need is things getting worse.

1 ReactionIs this true?
Botox® may cause the bladder not to empty efficiently, this can affect between 6 and 20 in every 100 patients (taken from the British Association of Urological Surgeons, July 2023).
You will have an appointment with a specialist nurse who will teach you to how to pass a tube into your bladder to drain the urine. You may need to do this, 3 to 4 times a day, until the effects of the Botox® wears off. If this happens, the specialist nurse will be able to provide you with support.
It's a Hell No from me.
@peterj116 Yes, it is; Botox prevents the normal muscle activity needed for bladder continence and emptying.
I don’t see how it would be helpful in your case since you have an AUS; sounds like an adjustment might be necessary.

I went in to see doctor about Botox myself and doctor said a device call axonics is a more permanent solution for over active bladder than getting Botox every 6 months. So I am @ 1 year after implant and glad I did, not a perfect solution but wow much much better. So happy I did. Now I am 4 weeks post advance xp surgery still waiting for full recovery to see how well it works.
Thanks for the information.
If he mentions Botox, I'll see if I can steer him towards axonics. Sounds much better.
