Friend's Role

Posted by concernedfriend95 @concernedfriend95, 8 hours ago

For those who have Multiple Myeloma:
A dear friend was just diagnosed. While it is clear her Drs. are treating her physically, what is the best way to support our friend emotionally?
She lives several hours away by car so visits are few & far between & a simple get well card isn't enough & could add to her depression since there is no "cure". Any suggestions that may have helped you?

You are indeed a dear friend to your friend, to ask this question. Here is what I would like to say to you:
- be there for your friend. Even if you are not able to physically give a hug, knowing that you care means a lot.
- if you aren't already, be ready to answer a text or phone call any time of day or night.
- know there will be periods of doubt, confusion, tears, grief, etc as your friend gets to understand this new reality, and be ready to lend a shoulder!
- educate yourself on what type of multiple myeloma and treatment options your friend has. This will let you be even more valuable
