loss of taste and smell

Posted by janicemmccarthy @janicemmccarthy, Apr 9 5:41am

I have loss my taste and smell for 10 months. I have been doing the essentail oil smells twice a day faithfully and it hasn't worked. Does anyone else have any ideas how to help this situation?

It stands for Low Dose Naltrexone; it has been used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases in the USA since 1985. They have been studying it for a very long time now.
Two physicians recommended it to me; one from Standford University and Dr Richard Semelka from Chapel Hill NC.
I researched it before trying it and then filled my prescription.
Most recently, functional medicine physicians are speaking very highly of it ,as well as pharmacists.
Research, research, research...it helped me. Maybe try researching the history of LDN and info should come.
There is an international site that our American site on LDN merged with that is very good; they have patient guides and physician prescriber guides, etc.

@lesligirl02 So, you did get your taste and smell back using the Naltrexone? Not one single doctor has even ever mentioned it to me.

I’m going on my 4th year without my taste or smell. I had other symptoms that have gotten better or gone away, but this is the lasting one that is so important in life! I have done several things to try to regain them, but they’re not working…😞

@lkirnbauer I’m going on 5 years, same issue. This is lingering and no doctors have offered any help, they are discouraging actually. I tried the smell training, nicotine patches, supplements to no avail. But I’m praying and trusting The Lord it will return. With God all things are possible.

@lkirnbauer I thought of your continued loss of taste and smell when I read about a trial on the National Institute for Health. "40 patients with anosmia (loss of taste and smell) post COVID-19 infection were randomized to either intranasal insulin film vs. normal saline (placebo). At 30 min after administration, patients in the treatment group had significantly greater odor detection compared with both their baseline and the placebo group" Perhaps a chat with your doctor to try the gel or patch form of insulin for application to your nose and see if it works to stimulate your smell and taste olfactory epithelium and promote regeneration? This was the complete study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10001044/

@po777 You’re a way better person than I am. I’ve pretty much given up on the Lord. I am a born Catholic woman and have been teetering in my faith since Covid. I have been praying for relief and I’ve gotten some, but still struggling. I know I could be worse off, but why would God take your taste and smell away. To me, they are essential to survive!
