Just An Update on HG Serous Ovarian Cancer

Posted by jenelleseaman @jenelleseaman, Sep 18, 2025

Just to let everyone know that the cancer has returned yet again. I had a PET scan last week after three months, and it has returned with a vengeance, both in the abdomen and possibly the chest cavity.
I am having a FNA biopsy under ultrasound tomorrow of a lymph node near my left clavicle to see what it is. I’m told that ovarian cancer does not usually spread that far, but that I have never followed the rules.
I’m going to be commencing chemotherapy for the ninth time soon. The dates have not been organised yet; my oncologist wants to find out the results of the biopsy. I’m also dealing with sarcoidosis which has made life a little more interesting.
I’m also up to the next drug, Gemcitabine is its name in Australia. There are several protocols for its use, and I don’t know which I will be using.
Something else that is of note- I have been asked to contribute my story at an Oncology Conference in November, which I am excited about.
I’m sorry that the cancer is back yet again. It’s not unexpected. I’m now ready to face whatever comes. When I was told of the results my oncologist said it’s very concerning, but also said that for the last 15 years I haven’t just done well, I have been exceptional!
With God’s blessing I hope to stay that way.
These daffodils were a gift from the girls in my Year 12 Chemistry class. They gave them to me on Daffodil Day with a very special card that they each signed with a personal message.

@jenelleseaman Oh, my. All that gorgeous sand, sun, and vegetation. I'm at the other end of the world where we still have snow on the ground. Here's hoping you enjoy every moment of this paradise with your family.

I’m told not MS! Good news. The neurologist is happy to watch and wait, and doesn’t think he needs to be involved any further unless something else comes up. Especially since I’m seeing my oncologist very regularly who is keeping a close watch on what is happening. I have a PET CT scan after the 4th cycle in May.
Tomorrow is the last dose of the 3rd cycle (54th actually!).
I have follow up drs visits with the respiratory surgeon because of sarcoidosis, and the ophthalmologist because of loss of sight in my right eye coming up in May/June as well. Never a dull moment!

@jenelleseaman : Celebration in the triumphs!

I can relate with the doctor appointments - I told my husband they make up my new social calendar.

Hope your other appointments go as well. Check back in?

@jenelleseaman This is excellent news. I know how careful you are about following your oncologist's recommendations. I know what you mean about seeing these specialists. When we reach, "ahem" a certain age, many more of this appointments are on our calendar.

Will you please let me know what you learn from the respiratory surgeon and then the ophthalmologist? From what you've shared here, this isn't much that will stop you from returning to teaching at the start of your next school year.

I’m at the end of the first week of school now. Chemotherapy cycle 3 finished last Friday. It took until Wednesday to feel human again! The Year 12 students are doing their exams, so the next couple weeks are a bit easier. In fact, on Wednesday I couldn’t think of anything else I had to do, so I rang the school secretary and told her I was going shopping!
The respiratory surgeon is on 25th May, the ophthalmologist is on 8th July. PET scan probably on 21st May!

@jenelleseaman You are one serious trooper!! And a nice "break" for you as the Year 12 students take exams - well, break for you but not for them. When you couldn't think of anything else to do you went shopping? My response is a big Wow. Did you also try on shoes?

Thank you for sharing your appointment dates. May is just around the corner. I'm hoping to hear back that your appointments and results bring back helpful information for you.

@naturegirl5 When I got home there was a pair of shoes that I had ordered online! So technically, the answer is yes! My nephew is getting married in a month, and I think I’ve found the shoes to match my dress. I’ll post some pictures when the occasion has happened.😇
