Knee replacement while on Prednisone for PMR
I was started on steroids back in July 2025. Started out at 60 mg and at time of knee replacement was down to 10 mg. Knee replacement took place on February 26, 2026. I know that healing takes a lot of of the bodies energy and healing from the surgery and dealing with prednisone. I just have been so tired. Has anybody else gone through this as well and is their light at the end of the tunnel?

For me ... the light at the end of the "overwhelming fatigue " tunnel came about a year after I tapered off Prednisone. My pain stopped during the year after Actemra was started. It took me a year to taper off prednisone after Actemra was started because of adrenal insufficiency.
The overwhelming fatigue gradually improved during the year after I discontinued prednisone as my cortisol level improved.
I had my knees replaced while I was on a moderately high dose of prednisone. Every precaution imaginable was done so I wouldn't have an adrenal crisis. The surgeon said I had a "high risk" for complications because of Prednisone. Both of my knee replacement surgeries went well and decreased my overall pain level. I was able to reduce my prednisone dose by 10 mg after my knees were replaced.

2 ReactionsDiagnosed in 2023 and started 20mg dosage. By March of 2025 was at 9mg and had total knee replacement. Had no major problems with continued tapering over the next year. A few short lived relapses along the way. Now on 2mg and recovered 100% from my surgery. Hope to be off prednisone mid-summer. This disease takes lots of patience with one’s body that’s for sure.
