Joint and muscle pain with exemestane

Posted by robijo78 @robijo78, 5 days ago

I started taking exemastane after trying anastrozole ,the anastrozole i took for a month and had painful joints and muscels,my dr. Let me stop and now am trying the exemestane. I am now in even more pain!! I talk to her next week to see what I can do,I don't see how i can do this for 5 years!!! Im hoping there's something I can take or if I can try some integrated medicine if my insurance will cover it. I'm just not sure what to do? My dr said most of these meds have similar side effects. ??

I am trying to take one ( two??) Claritin when I take my exemestane at night. Someone posted this combo on this blog. I think it helps. Having said that, some nights/ days are fine and other nights ( like last night) the leg pains are pretty awful. 2003 my first dance with BC I took it & the BC stayed away for 22 years now it is back but the other breast and DCIS not IDC. I hope this helps.

Of the 3 AI drug , Exemestane worked better- but still had joint/muscle aches and INSOMNIA . I did a healthy yoga, acupuncture ( I love it) Tia chi, walk, swim… in other words movement. Which all helps…but in saying that, I am no longer on it. I was on it for almost 2.5 yrs. It took me a few months after going off to feel really good.
I didn’t have an onco score- my tumor was too small and had no lymph nodes involved. I did have 15 rounds of radiation. I was 60 and now 63.
But it’s your decision to make. And a tough one.- at least for me. Prayers

Try Propel, it's a water supplement with electrolytes in it. I have been EXEMESTANE for a month, so far so good.
Also, Creatine, is a game changer for me. Less fatigue and bone pain lessen to almost nothing. dropped Creatine, switched to Propel. I would try Propel first. Easy to start and works almost right away cause it's water. I take hormone blocker at lunch and the a Propel to wash it down. Propel comes in different flavors too. And no, I don't work for Propel!! Giggles hope this works for you.

Hey, let me know how the Vinia works for blood flow, is that for blood clots or just for better flow?

@robijo78 Hi! Keep me posted on this! Is it for blood clots, or just a boost for blood flow, to keep doing the right thing.

Did they take you off medication for at least a month? I had the same problem with Anastrazole and he finally said “you shouldn’t have to live in pain” and took me off. It took 3-4 weeks before I really felt comfortable and changed to the exemestane. While I do have a little discomfort in lower back and hips, overall I really don’t feel I have pain from exemestane. Of course everyone is different but this could still be from the Anastrazole if you didn’t have time to recover. Of course, they all have different problems and with the exemestane, extreme fatigue and (as someone else noted here) the INSOMNIA - most likely because exemestane is in the steroid family so stimulates cortisol. I’m lucky if I get 4 hours a night which adds to the fatigue. Currently I’m on another break and while still not sleeping, less fatigued during the day and overall feel better. I call him next week to see what to do and unfortunately, that may mean letrozole which seems to be closer to Anastrazole. Will just have to see where I go with this as I have another 3 years to deal with this.
