Is this Neuropathy?

Posted by txharris2 @txharris2, 5 days ago

I have been dealing with lower, lower back pain, shooting pain and needles going down my legs, the left one is the worst. It goes down my legs into my feet and my feet feels like bricks, it's hard to drive because I can't hold my feet on the gas that long. I can't wear sandals, one of my foot will come out and I want even know it. I tell my dr. and all she keep saying is your drinking could be causing this. I see these commercials and they decribes all of my symtoms to the tee. Maybe I should see a neuropathy person because I am tired of losing balance and not feeling my feet.

Neuropathy is often a symptom of Diabetes. Cutting back on your sugar i.e. glucose intake will do wonders to help relieve the symptoms of neuropathy such as numb toes & the bottom of your feet. As well, cutting back on carbohydrate foods like white bread, pasta & the like will prevent your system from converting into excess sugar in your blood stream. Keeping your blood sugar level near normal range will really help reduce any symptoms of neuropathy. You do have some control over the causes.

Is there truly anything that can help with neuropathy

Hello @spore1941, Welcome to Connect. There are a lot of things that can help with neuropathy even though there is no cure. The catch22 if there is one, is that we are all different and what works for one person may or may not work for others. If you haven't seen the list at the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy it's a good place to start - https://www.foundationforpn.org/therapies/. Also there are many helpful discussions here on Connect in the Neuropathy Support Group - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/neuropathy/.

Do you mind sharing a little more about your neuropathy diagnosis and symptoms?
