Upcoming lumpectomy: Is their loss of sensation in the breast?

Posted by mygoodgirls @mygoodgirls, Mar 18 7:15pm

I am having a lumpectomy in 2 weeks for a small 5mm tumor. Has anyone had experience with a lumpectomy with a tumor this size? I am curious what to expect my breast to look like. Has anyone lost sensation in the breast from a lumpectomy?

I would also love any advice to help with the healing process. I plan to take 2 weeks off from work to take good care of myself as I heal.

Originally they said no chemo, no radiation. I was happy. Then the radiation oncologist did a deep dive into what little research there is about my type of cancer. Research does support radiation. And I had a 5.3 cm tumor and a satellite tumor of < 1 cm.....so radiation for me. I understand the reasoning and agree with the decision. I will have full breast radiation M-F for 4-6 weeks. No chemo, no other medications.

@babs28 Good morning,
Thanks for your notes. I like the no chemo, and prayers for your radiation that it goes OK.

@babs28 Hello and hugs! Did your surgeon suggest any radiation or Letrozole treatment?
My Breast Team has surgery scheduled for me May 5 for lumpectomy 7 mm Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Er+ PR+ but HER-2 neg. 4 to 6 weeks after surgery I will have radiation for one week, then 5 years of Letrozole. Anyone else having all three for their tumor? Thanks and hugs to you all! Suzanne

Hello-

I had 7 mm tumor IDC- I chose lumpectomy and reconstruction on both breast. 15 rounds radiation with a booster. My tumor was so small they couldn’t get an onco score. But told to take AI drug( I tried all 3) for 5 years. I did for 2.5 and went off - too many side effects for me.
