Constant dizziness/imbalance

Posted by Chester @chester, Jul 21, 2011

I'm a 47 year old male, and I've been experiencing a non-spinning dizziness/imbalance feeling for over ten months now. It all started after having a sinus and ear infection. I've had and MRI of the head, balance testing, blood tests for any deficiencies, heart tests, all of which are negative. I am suppose to see a neurologist next. Anyone else having similar problems?

How did you find a doctor that treats PPPD? I have had it for 6 years and can no longer walk except with the aid of a rollator.

An ENT diagnosed me but referred me to vestibular therapy, which hasn't helped a whole lot. Doctors aren't sure how to treat pppd(no effective meds and treatments) so they refer you to therapy. It is frustrating and I find the best treatments are online, like the Steady Coach or Veda on you tube. You need to be your own advocate.

Good Luck
I have the same symptons. I've been to an ENT and Neurologist. I had a cat scan and MRI 3 times. All came back negitive. Now I just deal with it as I'm used to it. I don't get alarmed as much as for when it first started.

Look at your medication list and possible side effects that they may be causing. Primarily the newest one that you have been prescribed. I remain unimpressed with the ENT physicians that I have been in contact with, one having trained at Mayo the other at House Clinic in Los Angeles. I had debilitating dizziness, sometimes 3 times a day and overwhelming episodes of vertigo. I finally researched the newest changes in my treatment plan and discovered that Eliquis was the culprit from 8-10 case studies similar to mine. Stopped the Eliquis, the dizziness and vertigo went away. Lost 8 months of my life dealing with that.

@kndaustin71 I have been dealing with life altering dizziness for 6 years. It came on somewhat slowly after the first episode of COVID, which was before there was a vaccine. I took the vaccine when available and now I can't say if it was the disease or vaccine. But, I decided it doesn't really matter which it was because I am already affected and can't change it now. I think the vaccine saved millions of lives. But, each day I wake up wishing I could do the things I love, but can't any more. I have decided to keep following the best advice I get and keep learning about what is new and maybe someone will land on a solution. But, even if they don't in my lifetime, I will just try to keep on living my best life even though it isn't the one I would choose.

My constant dizziness, off balance, lightheadedness, disorientation when in stores all started with a first ever vertigo episode over a year. No answers.

Mine was sudden onset, Jan. 2021. Have you looked up PPPD? My neuro just prescribed venlafaxine which may help, they say. Also, seeing a new PT who specializes in PPPD. Had to give up driving. Grocery stores, social events, etc. So, I do understand. Like you, trying to make the best of what I can.

I had gone to one Physical Therapist and Doctor Who specializes in balance. They did mention PPPD but I haven’t found anybody who can help that I’ve been to six different Physical Therapist groups, including Sun that specialize in balance but I’ve seen no benefit. If you have some suggestions on peoples names and locations, I would love to hear about it.

@migraineelaine I just looked up the drug you mentioned (venlafaxine also known as Effexor) and see that it is an antidepressant. I never tried that one, but my doctor (neurologist) did have me try Zoloft. I did for a few months and had no benefit. Maybe venlafaxine would work better. I will ask my doctor. Thanks for the recommendation.

@kentkemmerling1949 I have recently been diagnosed with NPH. Look up the symptoms. It frequently is a missed diagnosis. Ask your Dr about this.
