Lower chronic severe right leg pain

Posted by msladytee7 @msladytee7, Apr 9 1:09am

Hello, my name is MsLadyTee7, I am new to the group and very glad to be here. I have severe lower right leg pain and been experiencing it for over a year, went to several doctors which one did MRI and showed that bulging disc was pressing on the sciatic nerve and that causes excruciating pain in my lower right leg. Thru prescribed me every medication in the book to give me some relief but nothing has helped. This for of pain in my leg burns, pinches and throbs constantly limiting my ability to stand or walk sometimes only minutes at a time. I am in constant pain and wonder if anyone else is experiencing this issue or something similar and if so what have you relief. I don't know how much longer I can continue to function with this type of pain in my leg. Please if anyone have any suggestions or answers please respond. Thank you all so much and again in so glad to be a part of this group.

I have come to believe that gabapentin is prescribed quite widely for a variety of ailments. Don't know why. A guy in my book club was prescribed it for nerve pain in his body that he got from shingles virus. He had adverse side effects Is it the only arrow in the doctors' quiver? Or is there some tie to pharmaceutical giant.? What is causing your leg pain? What about OTC meds like tylenol or advil? Not the greatest either but probably safer than gabapentin. Today my shin feels extra sore from pt working on scar tissue from the biopsy. Is this something I must endure to get rid of the scar tissue?

REPLY

No. I have only used extra-strength tylenol and not with any regularity. I take the magnesium glycinate nightly. In addition to the soreness I feel from the massage work, I also think allergies are adding to my problem. I think as we age our tolerance to these environmental influences goes down. I hope you have some interests that can distract you from the leg pain. Sometimes that helps.

I get leg cramps that are unbelievable at night...I actually yell in my sleep. I have been seeing a neurologist for over 7 years. I tried gabapentin and now lyrica...no relief at all. I have an SCS...it helps when I am walking bringing the pain from a 9 to a 6, but not what it was suppose to do. I am very frustrated with it all.... Orthopedic MD now wants to put the nerve to rest....I am going to try it as I don't know what else to do at this point.

@gailmarienewton I agree I would go for the exact same thing. But I was told about nerve albalation in which it maybe the same as what you are referring to. Ask your doctor about it. Hope you find relief.

Hi MisLady, I think it would help if you shared what prescription medication you have tried.

@blowerk1216 I have been prescribed gabapentin 2 different mgs, cymbalta, and all the pain meds you can imagine, at this point no meds even begin to touch the pain, I was even given morphine once at the ER, nothing relieved the pain in my leg.

@msladytee7 Also I must mention that I'm allergic to Nsaids, so I can't take anything that contains nsaids which is terrible.

@msladytee7 no that’s its name, it is an opioid but not a very dangerous one. I used it for several years to control my calf muscle pain.

@gailmarienewton has anyone suggested that you might have Benign Cramp Fasciculation Syndrome? I had that for several years until I found someone to treat it. It’s often diagnosed using an EMG.
