Are you on Evenity despite no history of bone fracture?
66-year old female with no bone fracture history but with high risk of fracture DEXA-scan score. Doc has recommended Evenity. Wondering if there are others who are in a similar situation of no bone history and are taking Evenity. If so, have you experienced any side-effects? And after 12-months, did you stop meds or transition to other meds? Thank you

Hi @sms26
I went the Evenity route after Tymlos became intolerable and did all 12 months. I’m surprised your doc recommended, and your insurance company approved, the treatment - my doc indicated that these types of treatments were usually only approved after a fracture (esp vertebral frax). It seems most docs prescribe oral meds first.
I’ll have a Reclast infusion in July - my DEXA showed a slight decline after two years post-Evenity, but my doc isn’t toooo concerned; he also discovered that I have hypercalciuria. Fingers crossed that the treatment for this “combo” will lead to a smaller or no decline in my 2028 DEXA.
Wishing you success and a happy spring! Cheers!

5 ReactionsI am on Evenity after a Quantitative CT showed osteopenia 2.2 2.1. I dm 81 snd for many years my DXA scans were normal including the one just 4 months prior to the QCT.
I was alarmed when my husband had 3 compression fractures and his DXA was osteopenia; however a subsequent QCT showed severe osteoporosis.
I’ve had 4 Evenity injections and may have some joint /stiffness issues but not sure reason and are tolerable.
I would say just make certain to get all the blood tests searching for causes of your fracture risk before taking meds.
Consider hormone replacement, weight training and supplements for a time first . Seek an endocrinologist

1 ReactionI am on Evenity even though I don't have any history of bone fracture (except from for falling about twenty five years ago). My DEXA Scan t-score was -4 in my spine. My grandma had vertebral compression fracture due to osteoporosis. I have had two injections with no side effects so far.

4 ReactionsI agree with donnabutcher: consider hormones, resistance & high-impact exercises, supplements & protein-filled meals first. I've never fractured, but reluctantly agreed to start the Evenity course due to DXA numbers.
I'm typically a researcher in these type of matters, so I'm embarrassed to say that the fearful delivery of statistics caused me to agree.
See the nocebo effect by Dr Lisa Moore: https://www.youtube.com/watch
and do your own research first!
I plan to finish the Evenity course and stop bone medications after that. My dr won't be pleased, but my body needs a break from this powerful drug. I will continue my exercise class for osteoporosis, supplements, nutrition & hormones. Then I'll get a REMS scan to see where I'm at in 6 mo or so. I can always request a follow-up drug at that time.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences.
My Endo is recommending Evenity based on my DEXA low bone density score of minus 4.5 and a high fracture risk (more than 20%). He says the meds are necessary in addition to diet, supplements and resistance/weight-bearing excercises. I am continuing my research....
@singingbones You will have to go on another bone drug (such as Fosamax or Reclast) for a while after the Evenity to lock in your gains. Otherwise you will lose any improvements you got from the Evenity.

4 Reactions@shorty321 Good to read that you haven't had any side effects from Evenity. I have a similar profile -- DEXA scan showed -4 T score in my lumbar spine, but I've never had a bone fracture. Although my mother was never formally diagnosed with osteoporosis, she had several fractures in her 70s and 80s. I will have my first injections of Evenity next week. Fingers crossed.

3 ReactionsI have been on evenity for five months. I never had a fracture but it was recommended. No side effects. The only issue I found is that my injections are more painful each month but I think it’s because I always get them in my arms. Next month I will switch to my thighs to give the arms a break. I have always exercised at the gym and am now taking HRT and calcium citrate and vitamin D. Trying to eat more calcium etc. I am 58. Next step will be to figure out which medication to go on next to keep my gains (I am hopeful there will be gains!)
