Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jul 1, 2025

I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

I wondered if you have your own FLIR to assess nerve damage or do you go to a clinic etc?? I’d like to find out more about using FLIR for evaluation purposes?

@cbartonsandiego Yes I have one that hooks up to my iphone, it's called FLIR ONE. It's specific to either android or Iphone, I believe.... and it's not showing nerve damage, per se, it's showing temperature which is and indication of blood flow, which of course the nerves need.

you in San Diego? I lived in El Cajon my entire adult life, retired in 2018 and escaped CA in 2021.

@mike1041 Thank you for your information. I would like to know which model of FLIR ONE that you are using. I am curious and would like to give it a try. Thank you.

I find that intensive exercise relieves symptoms. I’m 84 been on 900 gaba for years without relief. Been to gym now 4-5 days a week 1-2 hrs per event for several months. Was on 1/2ng klonopin nightly which clearly minimized issues. Same gaba now no klonopin yet now no burning or pain save for numbness in right hand when awakening. If you can drag yourself to a gym regularly, from my experience you’ll feel and look better. Also minimize salt and sugar. Good luck!

I have a morning ritual of 1/2 hr with floor elliptical (variable speed, goes frontwards and backwards) then about 20 min on a treadmill. Follow that up with free weights and exercise bands 3x/wk. Gets me going. Keep moving. Get a watch that pesters you to complete your exercise rings every day and keeps track of everything. My PN rapidly got worse this past year. I refuse to take gaba or Lyrica. Fortunately have a high pain tolerance and just tough it out. I’m 87 and refuse to let PN win. I’ve also started PIR treatments tho I don’t have diabetes. Jury is out on if it will work or not. Good luck

I shower every other day. My ritual includes using a brush to scrub my legs & feet. After drying off, I apply CORTIZONE 10 cream to the areas on my feet & legs that exerience PN irritation. Then I put on a nylon garter belt followed by nylon stockings. These (size Large) are a firm enough fit fthat I comsider them to act as compression stockings. After attaching the garters, I finish getting dressed. The belt & nylons remain on for 2 days including bed time for sleep. This ritual wworks for me & releaves most (about 90%) of the PN irritation I used to experience. The stockings go into my hand laundry after 2 days (Ivory soap, cold water, hand wash) I also take 400mg of gabapentin daily

I'm planning a visit to a new podiatriist soon to get his opinions.
