Over-boiled nebulizer equipment?

Posted by bronchiectasaurus @bronchiectasaurus, Apr 4 9:56am

Has anyone left their nebulizer equipment boiling for over an hour? Because that's what I just did. Whoops.
Nothing *appears* to be damaged, and there was still water - it hadn't all evaporated, and the heat was on "low" not high so could have been worse.
Advice or anecdotes appreciated.

Oops! Do you have a good magnifying glass on hand? You could look to see if minute cracks have developed in the pieces.
I have accidentally boiled for up to 30 minutes without nocticeable issues.

I also had that experience, I don't remember how long exactly but more than half an hour, it seemed ok.

Oh my...I've done that boiling the purified water for drinking....but so far....not the nebulizing pieces.
So much on our mind and to do....let alone wanting to answer, when one can, those looking for answers on Mayo Connect.
Happy boiling!!

My pulmonary pharmacist at the U of Iowa INSISTS that I change my neb cups at least once a month, preferably twice. This is due to breakdown and microplastics. I change my distilled boiling water every 4 days at least because I do an 11-minute boil after each breathing treatment, which is twice a day, and three times a day when I am on the month of cayston.

@beejenigma What if you simplified your life by keeping 3 nebulizer cups in use at any given time, and boiling them all at the end of the day? Because they are being used half as often you would be able to use them for 4 months, and cut down your maintenance burden by half (or by 2/3 in your Cayston month.)
Just rinse the used nebs and toss into a bowl of dish detergent water to soak. At the end of the day, rinse and boil the lot. This is what I did when using the regular cups before I got the fancy Pari eFlow Rapid.

I would replace the over-boiled nebulizer pieces. It’s not meant for that kind of heat and why risk it.

Actually they all seem fine. Inspected and used them without any problems.

68 minutes boiling instead of 11 is just like if I used them 10 extra times. They would get boiled that long eventually, in fact they already have been. I could just retire them a week or two early, if I remember. They cost about $170 a set so I want to use them as long as possible.

@sueinmn I want the neb cups done as soon as I am finished using them each time. I do not do well with soap residue, smell, etc. Thanks though.
