Does anyone have Cancer with autoimmune diseases

Posted by taylor05 @taylor05, Apr 1 8:02am

I have lung cancer 4.5 cm along with another spot 2.4 cm in my pelvic area with Maybe limited Sleraderma, Secondary Sjögren's, Raynouds disease , small vessel disease with antiphospholipid syndrome as well. I've had several ischemic strokes and have lower BP always. I have a team now of Dr's, but changing to John Hopkins whete my Neurologist is because I know oncology is much better there and I'm complicated to treat. I'm probably 3rd to 4th stage of Cancer and probably won't make it.. They are finding out this week what kind I have.. I don’t even smoke! Anyone else having this issue?

Sorry for the additional illness you're dealing with. Let us know what kind of cancer you have.
I don't have cancer now but did experience having both at the same time.
I had autoimmune illness; Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease, Hashimotos Thyroiditis, an undiagnosed (possibly) lupus or RA. I was in my early 30's. At that time I also was diagnosed with 4 cm Stage II, Salivary Cancer. I had surgery and radiation.
I was able to have remission from the cancer, but side effects that have increased over the next 30 years from radiation treatments. Also, the autoimmune diagnoses have changed also.

It's a lot to go through at once! I guess I had youth on my side.
I remember a resident doctor at a major teaching hospital who told me the immune system had nothing to do with cancer! I wonder where he is now with immunotherapy available as cancer treatment?!

I think because you don't smoke it will always be in your favor. I also think that pollution is not given enough credit for causing cancer. I was an RN who mixed chemotherapy chemicals in a small room on the hospital floor. I always got a metallic taste in my mouth. When I had salivary cancer, I wondered if there was a connection.

Wow you had your plate full too.. I'm old. 😆 67 and in 2 places plus my
thyroid is either very inflammed or tumor getting ready to start growing he
said. They will look. I go Monday for what kind. What thst Dr said is
ridiculous! CTD and other autoimmune diseases can push the risk 3 to 4
times. Cancer can now increase my chances for more strokes 3 to 4 times
higher now, even with a blood thinner. No high BP ever either. I have
small blood vessel disease though... Please take care. I'm sorry you have
side effects still.. I have to have chemo and radiation..

I started with SLE) lupus) age 40, then Type 1 diabetes, DCIS breast cancer w Pagets in the nipple, Hasimoto's disease, Raynauds, and most recently PMR. I'm now 79. So, yes, they can go together.

Oh my. Yes I know they can as I have cancer with them.. I was wondering how you coped with treatments and the cancer itself with having autoimmune diseases. I'm scared of having more strokes. They have been many months getting better after each one. A big one I won't though.. I hope your better. Take care!! None is fun!! They don't think they can do more than maintenance on me so only a couple years at best..

2018 I had several clots in my lung. After several tests I was diagnosed with a rare auto immune disorder called Antiphospholipic disease. My immune system attacks my blood cells the immune system mistakenly produces antibodies that attack healthy tissues, causing excessive, dangerous blood clotting in veins and arteries. It leads to serious complications, including strokes, heart attacks, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pregnancy loss. The immune system makes antibodies that attack phospholipids, which are fats involved in blood cell membranes.
2025 I was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera after complaining about nose bleeds, headaches, night sweats, dizziness and bruises. Blood work and a BMB confirmed I have blood cancer.
