Mild TBI approx 2 weeks ago. - Still major gut symptoms
Hello, I hit my head after fainting two weeks ago from food poisoning. My symptoms from the food poisoning has subsided, however i have had intermittent headaches, upset stomach, diarrhea, and major nausea since hitting my head. I was wondering how long these symptoms could last? My doctor didn't give me an actual timeline

Well i can sympathize with you. Have had recent food poisoning my fault even and knew better but after my brain surgery's and healing over the last two years i still on occasion forget, that is because of short term memory issues, anyway back on tract-everybody's body reacts different and mine took me almost a month to get back into normal ranges of gut pain and cramps and hope you don't have to wait that long. i have known one case the food poisoning was so severe that recovery and return to strength he lost took 6 months and believe in my opinion that he never fully recovered. take it easy and let the body recover. have a blessed day.

Hello, Chey and Randy! The reason why the doc is unspecific about recovery in your guts is possibly that everyone's head injury is slightly different, AND most likely, everyone's gut health is different. My son had a severe TBI; I had the docs put him on probiotics from the get-go. Give your body time to heal and help it heal by cutting back a little on sugar and fats, and taking a probiotic. My son takes Floranex granules, which is a prescription and rather expensive. I take BetterVits Probiotics complex with 75B CFU.
Randy: Short-term memory issues are very common in concussions and TBIs. A neurology doc at Dartmouth-Hitchcock recommended a supplement, L-serine, for our son a few months after he returned home (7 months in hospitals). L-Serine is an amino acid. Within a couple of months, we saw a difference. Subtle but real. Then, after taking it for 5 years, we accidentally forgot to bring it with us on vacation. We saw little short-term memory slips. As soon as he started taking it again, he returned to his normal. It's not a huge fix, but it is a small, meaningful gain with little effort and expense. For the first 2 weeks he took 8 grams/day. Since then, he takes 4 grams/day; he just mixes it in water and drinks it down.
I hope both of you find peace and happiness in your journey. Remember to listen to music, especially live music, sing, paint, visit an art gallery/museum, and get a little fresh air. These all contribute to getting blood flow and oxygen up to your noggin where you need it. God bless you!
