I am trying to gauge whether or not to have surgery on a 9x8 left MCA aneurysm. Do aneurysms of this size in this location usually require surgery?

@tressy
Welcome to Mayo Connect. I see you also posted a comment discussion on "Unruptured Brain Aneurysm". Hearing the word aneurysm is very scary. Mind was in a different place, found incidentally on a scan for another reason. Initually though I would be headed to surgery, and 7 years later, no interventions because VERY low chance of rupture because it was calcified.

I believe you're asking for your mom. Did she have symptoms that led to checking for an aneurysm?

If in doubt, a second opinion is always a good idea.

What has the provider told you about the pros and cons of surgery? What are the chances of rupture?

Hi @tressy - I'd like to join @roch in welcoming you to Mayo Clinic Connect.

I also wanted you to know I moved your post to be part of this existing discussion on middle cerebral artery aneurysm:

Hoping other members in this discussion such as @tainan @tkeys @badnaples @smilton and others will have some thoughts for you related to surgery or not on your 9x8 left MCA aneurysm from their own experiences or those of someone they know with this type of aneurysm.

When were you diagnosed with this aneurysm, tressy? What did the doctor who ordered your imaging think about the possibility of surgery for you?
