Reclast Infusions: Side-effects & Recovery time

I had very serious reactions to the infusion. 3 days later I developed flulike symptoms which lasted a long while, not sure when it ended as I had multiple symptoms from the neck up. Severe right sided jaw pain with limited ability to open my mouth. That resolved followed by swelling around the eyes, Left face, eye pain, headache, scalp pain swollen temporal veins. I woke up one morning with partial vision loss which brought me to the ER. From there I was admitted to the hospital to rule out stroke. I had multiple imaging exams which were all normal. I saw an opthalmolagist who stated there was much selling compression on the optic nerve interfering with the blood flow to the eye. Vision deficit is likely permanent. I now have difficulty chewing on my back teeth without pain radiating up both sides of my face to the temples, and sluggish tongue when eating.

@jcl75 I am so sorry to hear about the suffering you endured. I am curious of your doctors reaction or opinion on these serious side effects? I hope you or your doctor reported these side effects to the FDA.

Have you considered any legal action regarding your permanent vision loss? @jcl75 I am so sorry to hear about your experience. May I ask what the protocol was for the infusion (time given, any saline or Tylenol). Please update us on your progression and how you are doing. Also, as someone else suggested, this should be reported to the FDA.

@jcl75 one thing that remains about the same for the most part! A lot of patients that received the Reclast infusion experience side effects and various symptoms. My endocrinologist says the Reclast is not the cause of these side effects and referred me to a Rheumatologist; who could not find anything, who referred me to a Neurologist, who could find nothing wrong yet we maintain these awful symptoms only after receiving the Reclast infusion. It has been 22 months for me and I continue with bouts of feeling extremely nauseous, extreme fatigue, both shoulder pain, left foot pain / burning and more recently sharp burning pain in both legs from my knees to the cheeks of my ass. I’ve decided that no one is going to give me any relief because no one knows what is going on! I do know that my endocrinologist would like for me to receive another infusion, which will not be happening. I am a 69 years old male that was told that I have osteoporosis. I’ve had a broken bone but it was caused from my own stupidity ! It is amazing how easily we can be talked into some kind of treatment because “ They” know what they are talking about until you point out all these symptoms and then no one knows a damn thing! Be a strong self advocate!

Sorry to know I wasn’t the only one with ALL the symptoms! This is month 5 and I almost feel Normal except knees!! Won’t happen again!!!
