Answer for thrombocytopenia?
I have been seeing a hematologist for 4 years for low platelets. I still have no answers. Recently I had a Blood Smear for Morphology which showed large platelets. I looked up causes for low platelets and large platelets and came upon MYH9. I have all 3 things that go with it....kidney disease, hearing loss and early onset cataracts. I will ask on Thurs at my next appt. Does anyone have this?

@chenn You have a very aggressive doctor. Please let us know how the bone marrow turns out.

1 Reaction@vng have you tried papaya leaf extract?
@chenn I’m also experiencing same issues—everything else is fine—just low platelets and little energy and dizziness when low as well as lots of bruising on body and gum bleeding when brushing teeth. Visit to Dr this week had platelets down to 29. Lowest so far. Dec they were at 49. Steroids work for me but I want to know if anyone is trying to eat any special foods?
@bluemom30 My dr said under 30 is dangerous. What is the next step for you? I have had no bleeding issues.
@catherine1290 I am scheduled for this Tuesday Apr 2nd. Will post again!

2 Reactions@bluemom30 We read about this papaya extract suggestion but did not bother to try . The reason is my Husband and I are already eating Hawaiian papaya almost daily . We share a whole one .
We have to pass on that almond milk recently since we think the additive ( gum ) can cause diarrhea .
Right now , we are just on peanut butter stirred into yogurt, eat dark green veggies everyday , and hoping for the best .
My husband's lowest platelet counts are in the 60s . No gum bleeding yet . But we are watchful .

3 Reactions@vng I did some research on papaya and papaya leaf extract. While eating papaya has many benefits, improving platelets isn't one of them. It is the leaves of the papaya that helps platelets. I have ordered a bottle of capsules and try it.

1 Reaction@bluemom30 Gosh there are so many sites that contradict each other! Thank you for the heads up on the almond milk won't be buying that again! The papaya leaf extract sounds like an option though!
Yes, that's what I read too . But we are not into supplements that much .
So far , we are just sticking to peanut butter stirred into yogurt , dark green vegetables , liver , all meats and doing our best with prayers .
We love papayas as a fruit . The ones from Hawaii .
@catherine1290 had the biopsy with aspiration today. The actual procedure took about 10 min. and really was not painful. It will take 5 to 10 business days for all the results. However, my platelets actually went up to 87 from 70 2 weeks ago.
