Liver test results and severe anxiety
After a trip to the ER 2 days ago and a follow up with my regular doctor yesterday it turns out I have severe anxiety and am starting meds today. But anyways this sure isnt helping my anxiety but yesterday I received a bunch of bloodwork and apparently I had some abnormal liver function and a slightly high glucose. I guess its 119 and supposed to be less than 106.
And my liver specs are ALT is 62, AST is 62 as well and bilirubin is 1.57. He wants them rechecked in 2 weeks and an ultrasound. Ok the recheck i understand but is the ultrasound a little excessive? Ill gladly do it im just trying to keep myself sane for the next 2 weeks because thats what freaked me out. It sent me into a panic attack so I got my actual numbers from my on line portal and did my own research to find that these numbers seem to fall in the mild elevation and keep an eye on it sections of the graph. Does this sounds the same to anyone else or are these numbers worse than they look or better. Is he just being overly cautious? He has a tendency to do that and im thankful for it but just trying to get through this recent panic attack.

2 ReactionsWhat meds did they start you on for anxiety ? I was prescribed propranolol 10mg. 3 times a day. I wasn't sure if I wanted something so permanent. My mother took meds and she called them nerve pills. I have no clue what it was as she has passed. Occasionally she gave me a 1/2 pill and it did calm me. The propranolol slows your heart rate. What I found from that was exercise was harder for me. That stressed me too. I am not sure the long term effects. I have been on it for 3-4 years. More recently I have had anxiety return temporarily, occasionally . I learned to self talk, telling myself that I felt that way last time and I survived and nothing bad happened. Before propranolol I would exhaust myself walking as that helped me with anxiety. But I also slept very little, like 2-3 hours a day trying to deal with it. I was so tired. I finally asked my doctor for help and they sent me to behavioral health. No sessions, one visit and they prescribed propranolol. I am still not perfect, but I sleep more which helps everything else. I too have fatty liver and now diabetes.
I was told I had elevated enzymes 30 years ago. I didn't lose weight till this year because of diabetes. I changed my diet and dropped my A1C from 10 back to just under six in three months. I have been slipping on food again and hope I don't go way back up again. I struggle daily as I get bored with food, but feel hungry. I hope your meds help, if not try something else. One note on propranolol-if you try it you will need your doctor to wean you off of it. I don't know why that is what I read. Hang in there and hopefully you have a friend or neighbor that can help you with a listening ear. I learned that alot of people struggle with anxiety. I met a guy I worked with that would go to the emergency room every week because his anxiety felt overwhelming. He appreciated some one that could relate. I spent many nights just talking with him till he would fall asleep.

They gave Ativan as an emergency if I needed it immediately but I never took any and was given lexapro 10mg. This is embarrassing but I was experiencing sexual side effects with it on the 2nd day and that was enough for me to say nope. I just didnt like the way it felt in general either.

2 ReactionsJust to update everyone. My ultrasound was canceled and I'll be only redoing labwork in a few weeks. My girlfriend knew someone who recently had elevated liver enzymes. They were triple what mine was and this lady was diagnosed with simple mild fatty liver. To avoid the unnecessary cost it was gonna be for me to have an ultrasound because my insurance is horrible she told me to call my doctor and tell them about the recent rapid weight loss which they didnt know about. The doctor agreed and said we would retest labs in a few weeks and move forward from there.

2 ReactionsJust to update everyone i had my follow up appointment for my anxiety meds which i said earlier that I already quit so im not sure why I even went lol but anyways it gave me a chance to discuss this liver situation. He got a kick out of the fact that 3 days after I thought I was having a heart attack that I was already back at it and realized I was having sexual side effects from the Lexapro. It was all in good fun though he took it seriously but still tried to joke with me. Turns out he is fairly confident I just have a fatty liver and explained what numbers meant what and where we could go from here. He was unaware that I had a ridiculous deductible. I buy the cheapest insurance option because I rarely go to the doctor. Its a 5000 dollar deductible that doesnt pay a penny until I hit it. Then it pays 100 percent from there. He said the liver test he wanted would easily meet my deductible but knew it wasnt realistic for me to pay that at this time and he didnt feel my numbers were important enough to drive into for that price at this time. For now he wants me to diet for a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks maybe longer then recheck my labs. The local hospital is doing 25 dollar lab work in my May and July. With the option to add more things for an additional price butnits still resonable its only 10 more for each of the option so on the discount months I'll be getting a basic lab workup again and he wants me to add the a1c test and something about iron. The iron test has a couple other things that I dont know but i think it says u1c or something like that. He did feel around on my stomach and said "you dont have an enlarged liver i can tell you that" So this is where we are it with this situation. Ill be sure to update everyone.

3 Reactions@nlucas123 Hey Congratulations ! Cool, cool. Sounds fantastic on every front ! p.s. I have talked to folks and that deductible seems high to you but a lot of folks have stuff like that. Mine and wife's is better but my Moms is a lot worse. Hers never pays 100% even after hitting her deductible. The good news for you is 100% covered after the 5 k so you are protected.
Have a great week. (---:
Get the ultrasound done to rule out anything, that way you can stop worrying about it. Since you do have some slightly elevated labs, it is best to have the labs done again in a couple of months. One of my liver labs was slightly elevated, so the doctor wants me to repeat them in two months, just to be safe. Best to just do it and get it done. Why are you stopping your anti deppressants after 4 days? They take at least a couple of weeks to start working. If you don't treat your anxiety, what are your plans for helping yourself get better?

I know they take awhile to take affect but I had immediate sexual side effects and from what I read its pretty common and they were adding to my anxiety instead of helping it. Getting the all clear for now from my doctor drastically reduced my anxiety especially since I pretty much only have health anxiety and not really any social anxiety and no depression at all so getting the all clear on the health really helped me and ive just been trying to manage any other anxiety. Actually the last panic attack was on my 3rd day of Lexapro. They seemed to have been making it worse.
