Thank you for your candid and comprehensive account of your septal myectomy experience. I am a 67 years old female. I have been symptomatic for two years now where I have to stop every 20-25 steps to catch a breadth. Long walks are hard. I also developed Afib and have had two ablations to treat that already. I am still on anti arrhythmics to keep that at bay. My septum thickness is 2.3cms. Ironically my gradient is not that high compared to my SOB symptoms. I have an appt at the Cleveland Clinic in May this year to get a second opinion and get evaluated for a septal myectomy. I am in Houston and there is a COE here but I rather go to a center that does a lot of these as is recommended. I am a perfusionist by training and experience so know a lot about OHS from the other side.
Has anyone had this done at the Cleveland Clinic? How was your experience? I would really appreciate any incites and comments. Thank you in advance.

@leenag I am so glad that you value the expertise found at a COE! Not all do septal myectomies and many at a lesser volume than at Mayo or Cleveland. There are members of this blog that have gone to the Cleveland Clinic, hopefully they will chime in. Each of us has different symptoms at varying degrees of discomfort, there is no one size fits all for HCM and HOCM. Your professional training as a perfusionist (I had to look that up - running heart-lung machines during the surgery of others) has taught you much. Please look at the blog thread: What I Learned From My Open Heart Surgery to learn about the experiences of others. You may find it valuable to look at 4hcm.org, the website of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association. You can ask to be able to access their Facebook page where I have read many comments about the Cleveland Clinic.
