Help on my left knee replacement and future right knee
I had my left knee done on 2/18/26. And my right knee was scheduled for 8weeks later. However after my 4 week checkup yesterday, it's now pushed out to 12 weeks.
I am doing my inpatient PT at home three times a day, and my outpatient is in my third week, two days a week.
My left knee is very sore, and very tight everyday. I'm wondering when I'll see some improvement.
Any comments are appreciated, thanks!!!

I had a partial done on my left knee a year ago. Based on my recovery from that surgery I scheduled a TKR on my right knee the beginning of November. The recovery from the right knee had nothing in common with my left knee recovery. I had nerve pain in my right calf; it woke me up from sleep. I had significant pain and discomfort in the joint and surrounding tissues. I wish I had put off the right TKR so I would have been stronger for the second operation

1 ReactionHi,
Thanks for your response. I hope you're doing better now!
I had left total knee replacement on 17/2/2026. Pain at night has been tough, poor sleep etc.
I find moving helps relieve the pain with ice. My meds are paracetamol now and I take pre exercise and minimal relief. From my research on knee replacements, tightening can last for a long time. I'm pushing ahead with the physio exercises and getting my walks 10 mins three times per day. The stationary bike also once a day for 10 mins this week. Hope this helps.
PT is so important after TKR! I have had almost 30 sessions of physical therapy since my TKR on 11/20/25. I attribute my ability to do anything I want now (hikes; walking daily; gym) due to the therapy. I am 71 years old...If you have insurance that will pay for the PT, insist on it with your surgeon or your primary doctor...Good luck!

3 ReactionsYou are on the right track!
My TKR was October 1st and it too 3 months for the pain to subside. Sleep positions were difficult.
Now, after 4 months of PT, I am doing great. Only needing to ice after a particularly active day.

Hi Jo,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. You had your surgery one day before me, so this should be very helpful for both of us.
I'm having lots of swelling in my left foot still. I elevate frequently, but this aggrevates my thigh. The tourniquet left a painful hematoma on my thigh. This is what bothers me most. Did you have anything like that?
@catheem ,
Hi, and thanks for responding to my post!
I've been going to outpatient PT for two weeks, and it helps. I had my 4 week checkup and they want me to got to PT 3 days a week. I need to set that up this week, and I'm happy to do that. It's good to hear your progress, thanks!
