Osteoporosis quite severe if I started hrt now will it help . I am 74
Any other woman of a similar age to myself with osteoporosis found hrt helpful quickly? I am just so scared of the other drugs. I have had no fractures yet but I feel they are imminent !!

@tiny28 I can so understand why you would feel beaten right now. At 75 it is a big deal and your body might need longer to recuperate. Also, maybe physical therapy might help the change in your body. I hope your able to start feeling better.
@mo215 thank you . I need to get the hip and trochanter pain in hand as it’s been made very bad by the op. I would like to get to a pool for some hydrotherapy as soon as I can get past the fatigue . Why is it that when you worked hard to keep yourself fit when you are young that you have to suffer these things later in life. However must look on the bright side there are worst situations in the world right now that we could be .

2 Reactions@gravity3 I am curious if you have had a bone density test since taking any of the above drugs. I had Fosamax ages ago and then with cancer and fractures, I was given Xgeva for quite a while, then switched to Prolia and finally six months on Evenity. My DEXA scan revealed I had LOST bone density, but ended up with an aneurysm and a TIA, so they stopped the Evenity and put me back on Prolia. I know a lot of my care was badly mismanaged but have 12 fractured vertebrae in my spine and even broke a couple of ribs just moving my arm a few inches as requested at the beginning of my bone marrow biopsy last year.

I know this post is a year old, but wondering how you ended up once finishing the tymlos? Did you need to use a bisphosphonate after, or were you able to stop and just continue and keep any gains on HRT?
Thanks in advance!
Would love to know if you started HRT and if it has been helpful for your bone density - thanks!

3 ReactionsI discussed this with an endocrinologist and osteoporosis md. Both said the same thing. You will get no improvement in bone density. It might hold what you have for awhile. Prolia for me was very successful. I went from severe osteoporosis at age 57 to barely osteopenia in 4 years. But after 12 years on it I started breaking bones again. Both doctors said the side effects of HRT will outweigh the small benefit. So I will go back to oral Fosamax and keep up weight bearing exercise. I cannot do Evenity or Reclast- trued and horrible side effects.

Which possible side effects do they worry about if you start hrt/bhrt?
