Has anyone done food sensitivity testing?
Out of desperation to solve the mystery of what triggers my collagenous colitis flares, I'm considering ordering a food sensitivity test to see what results I get. My GI does not believe in doing this kind of testing. Years ago I had a PCP who was into holistic and alternative treatments and she ordered one from USBiotek when I was dealing with reflux. About 12 food items were identified as a problem and I eliminated them from my diet for 90 days, then reintroduced each one individually. This resolved my reflux. Unfortunately, you need a doctor to order this test so I'm considering one that I can order on my own. All comments and suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Hello Deb,
My wife and I had a food sensitivity test some years ago through a medical physician. Recently while packing for a move, we came across them (we had misplaced them a few years ago). They are cool cards that you carry with you in your wallet and pulled them out while ordering in a restaurant or while cooking to remember what one should not be eating. I would definitely go get this test. You are further than we are with this process. That was a brilliant move to take the allergy or sensitivity foods out and put them back in one by one to see which ones are really problematic. Thanks for that idea, I want to try that. The very best to you.

5 ReactionsHi @debhammel! It's frustrating that your GI isn't willing to order this test for you. Do you know why they don't "believe in it"? Is there any chance your current PCP would order it for you?

2 Reactions@maddie7007 Thank you! What test did your doctor order?
@susanf8 I don't know why I didn't think of asking my PCP to order it. She may be more receptive to this. The GI said they weren't very accurate.

1 Reaction@debhammel it sounds like the tests at least give you a good starting point, based on your previous experience. I'm glad to hear you may have another avenue!
I'll be curious to hear more about it; it might be something that helps me.

3 ReactionsMy husband's ENT did the tests for food allergies in his office. He found allergies to dairy and tree nuts. It was worth it. Since he eliminated those items from his diet his itching got a lot better. He is taking Dupixent for the chronic itching.
If you go to an ENT you can get it done.
I was also told that the test is not reliable by a dietitian. I have been battling IBS-D for the last 3 1/2 years. No one is mentioning that this could be coming from not having a gallbadder. Just found out through AI that there is a Bile Binder. Now I just have to find a doctor that will listen to me and write a script for it.

1 Reaction@joycenewjersey1019 I'm always amazed that Docs don't address digestion with patients who have their gall bladders removed! I'm 75, have several friends in that boat, and none of them realize that their body can no longer digest fats efficiently. I guess: do your own research.
For years I had no idea what was wrong with me. I would wake up between 2-4AM feeling light headed, vomiting, diarrhea, sweats, hives followed by violent shaking. Classic Alpha Gal allergy, had no idea I could have died during any of those instances. I would have somewhere between 50-75 a year? plus other weird GI issues, bloating, gas .....the list goes on. Getting tested for Alpha Gal is a simple blood test, I personally think Alpha gal testing should become routine blood work for everyone who lives and breathes. It is incredibly weird, with symptoms ranging from indigestion to full anaphylaxis like mine. Now the new GI Dr. diagnosis for anyone with weird symptoms is EOE, it's the new trendy diagnosis for we really don't know what's wrong with you but we have a name for that!

Look up DR Eric Berg in YouTube and type gallbladder behind his name, may be very helpful?
