Seroquel for PTSD during benzo taper - need hope

Posted by katnewton @katnewton, Mar 12 4:32pm

I’m trying to taper off if 10 mg of Valium and the withdrawals have been more difficult due to PTSD and OCD underlying conditions. Anyone have success with taking Seriquel for help with calming nervous system and ruminating? My doctor prescribed it to help me calm down during the day. I’m in survival mode all day every day during this taper. Thank you for any support.

@nanagizer I’m on 0.5mg daily right now. Down from 2mg about a year plus ago. Basically I am working with my psychiatrist to slowly cut down plus using other meds to help make sure my sleep stays on track. So I may cut down by 12.5mg at a time but sometimes adding other meds like gabapentin, Seroquel, melatonin, etc to help. However I’m also trying to get off Seroquel so the process is slow going. How are you doing with your taper?

@ashleyharris728 thanks for your reply Ashley. I am doing a taper that was given to me by a couple that runs a FB support group for Benzo tapering etc. It is basically cutting 5% every 2-3 weeks depending on how I feel. I have gone back and forth several times due to travel plans etc. keeping me away from home. I had a long conversation with my husband and had him read all the posts and literature about this evil medication and he now gets it that travel is out of the question for the rest of this year. I need to stay home and concentrate on JUST getting this medication out of my system best I can and no more going back and forth. I am down about 15% now but have a long way to go. I am in no hurry. Also trying to keep my sleep up which has been a problem for me for 40 plus years! Been taking Ambien for that and trying to cut that down at the same time. My doc has me substituting hydroxyzine and melatonin spray on the nights I cut my Ambien down. It is all such a cluster and I wish I could just STOP it all! How does the Seroquel and gabapentin work for sleep? Do they affect the GABA we are trying to heal from the ativan? I hate to keep this vicious circle going if I can.

Unfortunately, the taper has not begun yet, as Maine Health wants me to things the ramp up my nervous system and not helpful to me before they will start it, but they can not see that and at the moment won't budge. I am seeking other sources, but they are iffy at best. I feel like I am between a rock and a hard place and praying for help. In the meantime the bills are racking up. I think what they are doing in malpractice.
