What exactly does low dose naltroxene (LDN) do for fibromyalgia?

What exactly does LDN do for fibromyalgia? Does it relieve pain? Depression? it sounds like it is for alcohol/drug addiction...but a lot of people have recommended it...please share how it is supposed to help, thank you
Also, does anyone have trouble with constipation???

Constipation is a pain in the a** - get it? Anyway, yes - IBD, chronic slow transverse constipation (which sometimes becomes 'no transverse' for 2 or 3 months). I have been hospitalized twice due to complications. I will not take any medication that even 'hints' that maybe, just maybe there's a slight chance it might cause - (perhaps on every other full moon) - constipation ... which is every single pain med as far as I can tell.

@haarvee I was told to take magnesium oxide and I take it every day (500mg) and if I feel like I am starting to get constipated I will take 2 and then if that doesn’t work I take senna. It is a big problem for me and can happen so quickly.

Thanks for your ideas and suggestions and experiences. I was too sick to come on the forum for 2 or 3 months.
I chuckle as I have taken every single one of your meds and OTC meds as well, most but not all to no avail. I have a drug-resistant form of the disease - others on this forum have it as well. Even hypertension meds don't work (maybe for the best - highly constipating for me). I have a positive attitude, meditate reflectively for hours per day.
Of the 100 or so meds that I have taken in the last 34 years, only 3 worked. Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), and it worked for 15 years until it didn't (also constipating). Hydrocodone (never abused it even slightly), BUT as an ongoing med for this disease ? Yikes - constipating. So that med is in my rear view. The lastis , let's say a prescription not necessarily available in all jurisdictions, if you ghet my meaning. By far, the most beneficial med for me. My experience; I fault no one for their methods of coping; my heart is with you.

I don't really know why it works -- something about endorphins I think -- but it does work. I am feeling so much better since I've been taking it; and I've only been taking it for about 3 - 4 months.

My meds for discomfort…..LDN daily….Meloxicam rotated with Arthritis Tylenol……mostly manageable with that. But weather variability can make me
Really ache through all of my daily routines….

@tbirddonna It's also working well for me. Eases the pain and helps me sleep. Once I worked up to the maintenance (4.5mg.day) it took a couple months to notice the benefits. No side effects too.

I'm wondering if I could stop taking Cymbalta, since the LDN is working so well. I'm almost afraid to try getting off of it, since I've been feeling so much better. Anyone else tried to stop taking Lyrica or Cymbalta?

I tried LDN for a week. 1st dose felt good,I was hopeful. Then I experienced so many awful side effects. I wasn't willing to carry on because of it. Im happy for those that it working. Im sensitive to meds & it wasn't the drug for me.

@tbirddonna I've read that Cymbalta can be very addicting and if you want to stop, you have to taper very very slowly to avoid bad side effects. I have fibromyalgia and read about this drug because my doctor recommended it. Based on what I read, I decided not to take it. Here is an article about a lawsuit against the company: https://www.freeadvice.com/legal/what-to-know-about-cymbalta-withdrawal/

There is a Facebook group called "Cymbalta Hurts Worse Support Group" which offers advice on how to taper off the drug. Good luck.

I am now on LDN and it has worked wonders for me. My pain and insomnia are completely gone.

@krits same here, caused me anxiety and more nerve pain but it does help others. It's normal to react to things with fibromyalgia

@tbirddonna oh boy. Now of course this was only my experience. After taking it for over 12 years decided to get off Cymbalta. Then start LDN. Doctor weaned me off it. The mental side effects were and still are devastating. High anxiety, scared of the simplest things, nightmares, crying all through the day and night for everything. After about 6 weeks most of the side effects went away except for the crying it only got a tiny bit better. It’s debilitating. 2 cousins and 1 aunt have passed since then I didn’t go to their funerals because I would have cried all through it and more than any other persons there. I can’t stop it as hard as I try. Not only crying but the full blown emotions, I feel emotionally devastated. It exhausts me. If I see a dead animal even if it’s a worm in the garden I start crying devastated because this worm never had a chance. (I don’t like worms). Went to my friend’s nephew’s funeral whom I didn’t know and cried more than anyone else. I went there to support my friend and she ended up consoling me. Songs make me cry full blown. It’s ridiculous. I certainly wasn’t like that before. So it’s hindered my social life and I fear having a conversation with anyone because the slightest thing will set me off. I’m embarrassed and yet unable to hold it back. This month it’s been a year since I stopped it. BUT since I stopped it I get up early (for me, I’m retired ) 8am-9am. When I was on Cymbalta I got up anywhere from 1pm to 5pm. I thought it was fibromyalgia fatigue until I got off Cymbalta. BUT when I first took it I was so bad from fibro that I could hardly walk and sometimes I would crawl. So it did help me then. I’m taking LDN now not sure if it’s working yet (I’ve heard on here it could take up to 6 months to work), I do get flare ups, sometimes kind of bad. But use heat ice chiropractor, biofreeze, etc. and Advil when the other things don’t work. Not very often. I’m not great - especially with all the crying, however being able to get up early is great. I will never take it again.
