Shocked by aging process

Posted by seniormiz @seniormiz, Jan 25 8:54am

My fingernails and toenails stopped growing and just keep breaking off. My hair is falling out. My memory is not as sharp and sometimes I feel a little woozy. I hate this. I want my body and my senses back.

Thanks, @nycmusic! And if I may ask, does "nyc" refer to New York City and "music" to … well, obviously, to music? I ask because I'm from NYC and all of my working life was in the performing arts, not in music but in the theater. –Ray (@ray666)

@nycmusic
My favorite genre, @nycmusic! Which instruments do you play? I always wanted to play the oboe but it was not to be. Instead, I listen to my collection of CDs as often as I can. Evidently the recordings from St. Martin-in-the-Fields were not offered for the general public to buy -- I don't think I have even one, but the arrangements were superb.

I hear ya. I feel 10 years older than I am. My body has never been so achy. Plus all the other physical and mental changes. This is worse than I thought it was going to be.

@bjk3 hi, nice to meet someone here with shared interest in classical music…my instruments were piano, harpsichord and some percussion…co-founded 2 great groups here in nyc, did tours, continue to arrange/edit music.. love the St.Martin recordings, a real inspiration..aren’t they available online ? ….as this is a medical site—music is definitely healing , renews our spirit !

@nycmusic Good morning. I left NYC for a degree out West after three years wasted years working for Uncle Sam. I hadn't expected to remain out West. I tried a number of times to re-establish myself in the East (my extended family is still there), but every time NYC cost of living had me fleeing back to Cowboy Counry. As a result, the majority of my eork has been out here: CO, NM, and CA. Now my idio PN has me thinking twice before even flying back to visit family. You mention the effect Covid had on your life. Mine, too. Covid shut down so much, so many opportunities, ventures that have never fully recovered. Here's wishing you a merry St. Paddy's Day! –Ray (@ray666)

Hi there, @dj12. First I'm going to have to find a spool of that flaming hot fuchsia ribbon. My wolf's head cane? I don't go anywhere without it. Only the other day I thought I spotted a werewolf in my local supermarket. I was wrong. It was only a lost Lhasa apso looking for his owner. I hope you're having a good day, dj12. Cheers! –Ray (@ray666)

@ray666 I was just sure you were going to say you spotted a werewolf drinking a piña colada at Trader Vic's... and his hair was perfect!

@capnjack At a Trader Joe's? His hair would be perfect, wouldn't it? Most shoppers at my local Trader Joe's seem more concerned about the impressiion they're making on other shoppers than if they look like they'd just emerged from the forest. 🙂 –Ray (@ray666)

@nycmusic Yes, I couldn't agree more. I do believe in many cases that it also plays a part in lowering blood pressure eases anxiety. For example,I know I would not be able to successfully get through MRI tests without music. But with my favorite vocals (Taize - not Baroque, but classical) it's almost a breeze. Great to make your acquaintance, nycmusic!
