How long did it take to finally get your Brinsupri meds?
My pulmonologist ordered my Brinsupri 3 weeks ago come next Tuesday. Today is Friday so nothing will happen over the weekend. I envisioned good things at this point. I am on original medicare and have called the doctor's office, the speciality pharmacy, enlighten and they all told me it's with medicare or last they want a preauthorization. Medicare does not cover Brinsupri. Can anyone suggest who else I should contact? I have received the Welcome booklet and am stuck on #2.

It took a full month to get Brinsupri. Sounds like you’re almost there.
Hi. My doctor prescribed the Brinsupri March 9; the speciality pharmacy (Vytlone - who makes up these names?) contacted me on the 12th and 13th to confirm my details, including insurance; the pharmacist called on the 13th to answer questions and describe potential side effects; and the drug itself is scheduled to be delivered by FedEx on March 17, hopefully in a green box 🙂 I think the time difference may be because my insurance approved the drug immediately. Good luck; I hope you're able to start the Brinsupri soon!
@tcd518 The first mailing/packaging of Brinsupri reminded me of the packaging of an Apple product!

1 Reaction@scoop It is my understanding that you early users had a backlog. But not now.

1 Reaction@tcd518 Vytlone is also my specialty pharmacy and they have my prescription and told me the hangup is medicare. Does medicare have to approve something that they do not cover? I should be slightly ahead of you. I will call the pharmacy again. Thank you for your time line.
Do you have a part D drug insurance? They are who approve the use and coverage of Brinsupri. If you are on an advantage plan, that may really be the problem as it is a very expensive drug. But don’t give up. There are foundations that will help pay for the drug or co-pays if you cannot afford it. Brinsupri was not on my part D drug formulary list; however, they agreed that it was necessary for my bronchiectasis. I do pay for the top level of my drug, part D, otherwise many of the lower part D drug insurance companies don’t pay or cover many of the Pulmonary drugs I need. So Medicare is really for your doctor and hospital. You need to have part D or Medicare advantage that covers your drugs. Once you are approved for the drug, it is mailed to you and you have to be home or an adult has to be there to sign for the drug. I hope this helps. I found the people who manufacture Brinsupri are very helpful. So, if you have part D insurance or even Medicare advantage insurance, you might call and ask them if they can help you find out what’s happening with your ability to get the medication. I hope this helps. Let us know when you get your medication. Think positive!

1 Reaction@speeched100 So I should contact my Part D insurance instead of the pharmacy because they are probably the hold up? Thank you wonder if I have to wait for Monday.
@speeched100 I also have part D. My Pulmonologist prescribed it for me Nov 24th, and I had it in hand December 4th. My specialty pharmacy did all the work with my Part D plan getting approval. I refill monthly with only the specialty pharmacy at my hospital, and pick it up there. A pharmacist calls me monthly to check in, and record any feedback.

1 Reaction@dchristi yes I would start with them. You might be able to find out something on your insurance website when you log into your account. Might start with messages or emails. Also look under medications If a ‘chat’ comes up, you can try talking with them if it seems like a real person and not a ‘bot’.
I was told there are 3 specialty pharmacies that produce the drug. I get mine from Amber; there’s also Optum that’s approved. I don’t know the third or if there’s more now. My part D is with Humana Premier and they had to approve me getting the drug. Previously, I had United Healthcare and they have it approved and work with Optum Specialty pharmacy. There’s no generic or other similar drug so insurance should cover it is my thought. Let me know if you have any luck finding out anything today or tomorrow. ☘️

That’s great! Do you mind if I ask if you have UHC? Is the pharmacy connected with Optum Specialty? I’m just trying to figure out which insurance is better/best to have for this medicine. I have Humana Premier that made an exception and approved Brinsupri for me. My medicine is mailed from Amber pharmacy and has to be signed for due to the cost. Thanks and I’m glad you were able to get your medicine so quickly.
