Why am I sick in the morning with food getting stuck in my throat?
Hello everyone over the past year I have have been having problems .im not sure how to phrase it. I have often been sick in the morning and tablets or food getting stuck in my throat. A few of these times I when I was about to be sick. I have had not very nice experience my wife tells me my eyes roll back in my head and I start shaking as if I was having a small fit. I don't remember and it only lasts about a minute or so.and it's a bit worrying .a nurse said it might be a vagus nerve. I've been to the ent clinic they couldn't see anything so they are going to send for a barium meal swallow xray. I have two endoscopy. Recently and they say my food is not digesting .so think now they are making a appointment to see a doctor at the gastro clinic. I will leave it at that.but anybody got any advice on what the short passing out could be. Thank you so much charlie.

I had recurrent vasovagal reactions where I had nausea, vomiting, and fainting. I would reliable vomit after 5 minutes of exercise and then be fine. I would get light headed at random times during the day. Sometimes I would faint.
Mine was possibly related to pressure on the vagus nerve during ovulation (my GPs theory), got much worse during perimenopause, and went away when I had a hysterectomy/oophorectomy.
You're symptoms sound a lot like mine, but obviously the cause is something else. I think following up with the GI makes sense.
Do you know when your appointment will be?

3 ReactionsI'm sorry for what's going on with you physically. But every physical trauma leaves a record of emotional trauma. And when that happens, we open get off of the begust nerve onto the sympathetic or the dorsal nerve. These are things that can be addressed in psychotherapy. Often there can be some clearings some relaxation
When you do that, in addition to addressing the physical. My belief is, if you just address the physical, without the emotional, it's like trying to clap with one hand. I hope this was helpful. Ohh, and in my estimation, somatic work or EMDR goodbye more beneficial. Then the traditional talk therapy

4 Reactions@chas123 From my experience I agree with your plan to ask about vasovagal syncope and to consult a gastroenterologist. My milder fainting episodes were about five years ago which resulted a vasovagal syncope diagnosis, my going on proton inhibitors and all seemed okay. Then after a severe bout of GI symptoms last year I consulted a gastroenterologist, stopped the PIs and (after scans and tests) and was diagnosed with mild pancreatic endocrine insufficiency. Your comment about poor digestion may be a clue. My GI symptoms have not recurred.

I had a "swallow study" in the hospital for a similar problem. Not as extensive as barium one you are going to have.
You should know alot more after the studies coming up.
Good luck to us all.

3 ReactionsI have had all the different tests, as I have a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. I had swallow study, gastric emptying study, saw a throat specialist, seen ENT Dr's. I do have a hiatal hernia and a nodule on my thyroid, which may be causing the swallowing issues and sore throat. I have a follow up appointment with ENT soon. At times, I do feel like something is stuck in my throat. I burp a lot and have choked a few times on pills or steak/tough food. I've had the barium study too, everything turned up normal for me. In addition, I have dry mouth, so I take medication for that. Endoscopies are good, I have had those also. I have acid reflux and gastroparesis. I have issues with my brain and memory and confusion, my hippocampus is getting smaller, your brain storage area. That could contribute toward difficulty swallowing. There was a lot of tests and it was so frustrating! I am hoping thru more tests with the ENT, that I will figure out and the Dr. figures out what is going on with me. I hope your Dr's figure out what is going on with you. Keep us updated on you, thanks!
