Hot and cold: Any tips for living with fluctuations of temperature?

Posted by asolidrock @asolidrock, Feb 27 7:40pm

Lately I've had episodes of being hot and sweating sometimes but not all the time now and in just a few minutes be cold. I'll be in the living room and have to turn the fan on then just in a few minutes turn it off.; it is really frustrating especially to my wife, although she doesn't say anything.

@georgemc I'm sorry to hear you're stuck on Firmagon. I had 2–3 days of flu-like symptoms after every monthly injection during the 2½ years I was on it, as well as rashes and egg-sized swelling around the injection site.

Here's hoping your monthly acute side-effects around the injection are much milder. 🤞

@northoftheborder Thank you for the input. So far, the only problem I have encountered with Firmagon is fatigue. Had minor swelling in the vicinity of the injection site, but it subsided after 2 days. I don't know how much of the fatigue is due to the Firmagon. It may, at least in part, result from my concurrent proton therapy, which also is cited as causing fatigue.

Anyone had experience using low dose estradiol patches for hot flashes from ADT? It was mentioned as an option in one of my other support groups).

My husband takes Megestrol 40 mg. for hot flashes and it has helped him a lot.

Actually, one of the guys in the Weekly ancan.org Advanced process cancer meeting on Tuesday discussed his doing this. He tried different patches that had different doses and found one that worked for him that stopped the hot flashes, and also worked with reducing the effect on his bone health. Yes, he was on ADT at the same time.

Here is a discussion of the use of estradiol both by itself and with ADT

I had periodic hot flashes which left me very cold and wet from my toes to the top of my head for 9 months following Lupron ADT for 4 months. I was so wet that I had major fungal infections in the groin penis and sides of my stomach. At night IO had to sleep without any covering to allow the sweat to disipate. This left me freezing cold with very poor sleep. 6 months after stopping Lupron the side effects began to lessen. My other side effects were constant migraines, bone pain, and frequent urinating especially at night. It was hard to keep hydrated because of the constant sweating.

Too bad you weren’t able to ask about that here. I had the same problem at night without the fungus issue. I was able to completely resolve it with the Embrlabs.com wave2 device. There are also a number of drugs that will stop the hot flashes. At first I was on depo-provera And it worked great until I started taking Zytiga.
