Hot and cold: Any tips for living with fluctuations of temperature?

Posted by asolidrock @asolidrock, Feb 27 7:40pm

Lately I've had episodes of being hot and sweating sometimes but not all the time now and in just a few minutes be cold. I'll be in the living room and have to turn the fan on then just in a few minutes turn it off.; it is really frustrating especially to my wife, although she doesn't say anything.

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Prostate Cancer Support Group.

This is a known side effect of ADT.

I used to get severe hot flashes. I would turn a fan on until I got really cold. Same sort of experience it sounds like.

I was doing a telephone survey recently about prostate cancer symptoms and they asked me if I had cold symptoms at times. Had one while I was talking with them.

Welcome to the ADT club! Those are hot flashes or male menopause that results when you on on such things as Lupron or Zytiga, which lower testosterone levels. They will stay with you as long as you are on treatment. There are some medications that might treat the symptoms.. I suggest talking to your doctor about it if there hasn’t been a previous discussion…

Now I only get warm flashes. I use my wave 2 device and a fan. Fortunately, I no longer get really hot in my head and have sweat start pouring down in my eyes. Only time I get close to that is when I run a mile (twice every day).

Here are drugs that doctors at Mayo say can be used to resolve the hot flash problem

Can you send me that info on the wave 2 device. Does it really help? My oncologist gave me effexor which does nothing. I do use a fan at night. I put covers on and then covers off; it is really frustrating. Thanks for the med list.
