Need support for Valium taper. Any positive stories?
It has been a long road of 5 months trying to taper off of Valium and looking for support that this will end. That it can be done and I won’t suffer forever. Anyone have any pearls of wisdom or words of advice to be optimistic? The withdrawal symptoms are anxiety and stomach upset. My taper is 1 mg a month. I’m at 9.5 now. I wrote before looking for support and several were very helpful. Anyone else that can help with successful or optimistic stories? Thank you very much.

@archermac15 Was taking Xanax about 2 years. I still take CBD oil from Neurogan. 75 mg drops of CBD/N, the N to help with sleep. If you no problem sleeping, just get CBD oil.

Okay, sounds good. I’m going to give it a try. Thanks.

The Ashton Manual has a tapering schedule for Clonazepam with a diazepam bridge. It’s very detailed and helpful. You basically reduce the Klonopin with Valium equivalent and then taper off the Valium which is much easier to do slowly . You can get a free pdf copy from benzoinfo.com. Attached screen shot of tapering schedule.

Thank you so much for this information. I’ve heard of the Ashton Manual but I didn’t know that Valium was better than Klonopin when it comes to doing a slower taper. After viewing this chart, it really makes sense. I’m hoping my Doctor will switch me.
@archermac15 Was on Xanax only about 3 years and switched to Valium for about 6 months. Am presently taking 75 mg of Neurogan CBD/N oil. The N is the part of the plant that helps with sleep.

I’ve been on Klonopin for about 20 years and it’s hard getting off. Did you take this after or during the 6 month taper?
@archermac15 During and after the taper.

1 ReactionDo you mean 10 mg? 1 mg is almost nothing. If it is 10 mg., split to 5 mg for 7-10 days, then split to 2.5 7-10 days then every other day. It is hard to get off of benzodiazepines, especially if you have taken them for a long time. Is a doctor helping? If you are on 1 mg, that is fantastic. Maybe I am confused, but you can do this.
@diverdown1 I appreciate your reply. When I drop 1 mg every two weeks I get withdrawal symptoms like nausea, high anxiety, shaking. I cut it to .5 every two weeks and still difficult. I have trauma that is making it harder I think and working with a therapist. I guess we’re all different. I’m really having a hard time tapering. I haven’t take. Them for a long time before my taper. Just since the trauma in August 2025.
