No “meat” on the bottom of my numb feet.
My feet are numb and it gets worse in the late afternoon. This weekend my feet also hurt a lot and I had trouble walking. Last night I realized I don’t have “meat” on the bottom of my feet. 😵💫 Walking increases the pain and I’m managing the symptoms by sitting a lot. I wear Uggs boots for cushioning and warmth (and live in hot climate.)
Sending my doctor a message. Any coping ideas?
I understand it’s related to my diagnosis of Sjogren’s and secondary Raynaud’s, neuropathy and dysautonomia.

@jacqincalifornia I am so glad you shared your feelings, it can be hard to stay centered. AI has so many surprises, stop the train I want to get off. I wish there were magic words to take away the sadness of having to make lifestyle changes. My motto used to be "I can figure this out", not anymore. I want to write about what I've accomplished.
Now I make a list of priorities and try not to get distracted. Exercise, eat, when I feel good cook meals to freeze, household stuff, and then something from my fun list. It's an evolving list and outside activities are limited. I've retired and my list includes puzzles, reading, journaling, artsy stuff, centering with Jay Shetty, cards, talking with friends, movies, art museum on good days, lunch with friends, etc. Sadly my family is gone, my cousins live far away. I've redesigned the rooms I live in and now love my house, it makes me feel comfortable and happier.
I trust my Rheumatologist and feel he hears me. I hope you have found a doctor that makes you feel he is taking care of you. There is a plan and expectations are defined. Finding a medication mix that works is a lot of wait and see, I wish I could take a Tylenol and feel better in the morning.
I believe my symptoms are caused by Raynaud's but it may be a combo platter. My internist prescribed PT for balance and my bad knee. I feel sturdier, not the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I like going to the gym, now I have a smart workout. There's lots of home exercises I should do more often.
I prefer my fleece lined Uggs that have a higher back because my heel slips. After reading other posts we all have our favorite footwear. Replacement insoles are available. I have accumulated ten pairs, all bought on sale. The company that manufactures Uggs also makes Hoka. When I workout in sneakers but it's harder for me to walk because I can feel the cushioning. I cannot part with some of the pretty shoes in my closet.
All in all my attitude is improving, there are ups and downs but that's true for everyone.

1 Reaction@bb03 Wow, a fat transfer. That sounds awful, so sad it didn't help.
AI disease is expensive and being high maintenance takes so much time it drives me crazy!

1 Reaction@bb03 Oh wow! This is EXACTLY what I've been complaining about for years now. I even called Brooks, as they seem to be one of the few that made narrow shoes, and now they seem to be dropping most of them. Nobody seems to understand that if you have narrow feet and heels, that you can't just wear a smaller size in a medium! Nope. The heels on the Mediums come right off my foot when walking. For the summer, I am able to wear "Fit Flops" which are REALLY comfortable. I can walk in those all day! Skecher's flip flops work for me, but their shoes are just too wide for my feet. Yesterday I shelled out a bunch of money at the Good Feet store. Their inserts work on a system with a wearing schedule. You get 3 inserts, all of which are worn for different amounts of time. The cheapest plan they had though was $1500!! I've avoided them for years due to that sort of pricing, but after years of pain, doctors, therapy, X-ray, MRI's etc and getting no better, I'm going to try this. I have spent way more than that on all the shoes and inserts I've purchased so far!!

1 ReactionMy orthopedist directed me to a guy who took impressions of my feet and custom made inserts. Orthotics?? I believe was the term. 400.00 worth of relief! Well-worth the cost. Even took into consideration my uneven leg length!

1 Reaction@cmb1 I tried that route too. Put my feet into molds and had them custom made. But the problem with that approach for me was that it didn't correct for my actual structural problems in my feet. The system I am trying now actually corrects the issue gradually. Been doing it for a week now and so far so good.
@bb03 same issues as you—very narrow, very sensitive, no fat pads (according to a sports medicine doc in my 20s!). Recommend Asics, the only narrows that work for me—with the addition of a bunch of pads, inserts & 2 layers of socks. Different models have different arch support, pronation, heel lift

2 Reactions@persistentc have you tried Asics narrows? Actually holds my heel in place!! Each model is different—recently switched from gt-2000 as the toe box kept getting bigger with redesigns to the Kayano, which I’m pretty happy with. Still need double socks, pads, inserts to fit my sensitive feet, but better than any other I’ve tried
