First appt for bladder cancer this coming week at Mayo Phoenix
Hello, I had bladder cancer a decade ago. Early stage. Treatment turbt. I just found out I have a recurrence during yearly cystoscopy. I’m switching from my urologist to Mayo in Phoenix. I wasn’t scared last time but feeling very anxious this time. Any tips, questions or suggestions for my first appt at Mayo? My appt is with a PA-C. Will I be assigned a urologist oncologist. Thank you for any encouragement or suggestions. Dorothy

@michzn I’m so glad you are on the other side of surgery. Going home with a catheter was awful first time around. Sorry you had to do that. I was awake during the chemo wash but they gave me fentanyl through my iv so it wasn’t too bad. Here’s to a good recovery. ❤️🩹
RC remains the immediate treatment with best outcomes. Even with stage 0 or 1 or 2 patients become metastatic sometimes. How longer the suppression therapy that is local the worse the odds.
An emerging therapy is to try eradicate it systematically with EVP.
Neo adjuvant therapy is wonderful for many cases but allows further progression in 30-40% of cases. Many sad case reports on BCAN Inspire and Reddit.
Trimodal (radiation, chemo, aggressive TURBT) works for a subgroup.

3 Reactions@kfontaine1002 Yes, I am waiting for my first set of results now. Your surgeon / care team needs to order the test. You can learn about all the tests at natera oncology, which is a third party. It was literally PULLING teeth to get this test from the CC. No one seemed to know what I was talking about. Since I persisted, they finally routed my request to oncology from urology and my test was ordered - ALTERA. From what I have read this test will disclose everything there is to know about the blood circulation in my body via bio markers and the tumor deep dive via sequencing. This should reveal with great accuracy the additional exposure I have to cancer and the best course of treatment for my unique dna situation. You want this test.

4 Reactions@michzn Be prepared if this is your first test. It took over two months to get the first results. Natera actually called me to set up my next blood draw before I got the first results.
@dorothyb1153 , did you decide to go on the clinical trial?
@colleenyoung I chose to not do the clinical trial right now. If the cancer comes back, and they have openings, I’m more likely to do the trial. It was a tough call.

1 ReactionHello Dorothy, I’m sorry your cancer has reappeared. This is exactly what happened to me June 2025. A bladder tumor that increased in size almost 50% was removed less than 30 days later in July. Pathology indicated High Grade Aggressive Muscle Invasive Papillary Cancer. I scheduled an appointment with Dr Tyson October 10. During my appointment, Dr Tyson advised me that removing my bladder was possible the best option to save my life. I asked him if he ever sees a patient that arrives with cancer, but after tests and biopsies, the cancer is no longer detected? His reply, very rarely! How rarely my wife asked? Maybe once a month. My wife asked, have you seen any patient like this yet this month? No I haven’t! I told him, I’m going to be your October miracle patient! October 23 Dr Tyson performed a Rigid Cystoscopy and Extensive Biopsy. I received a call October 27 from his assistant.
She said, I thought we were going to have to tell you we need to remove your bladder, but there was no signs of Any cancer detected or found! I traveled to Mayo Clinic that I possibly could die from this, but I wasn’t ready to go anywhere, too many things on my Bucket List! Don’t be afraid! I know this is really scary facing cancer and the unknown? Eliminate any unnecessary negativity in your life, people who drain your energy, and fight for there to be absolutely no signs of any cancer and you can be Dr Tyson’s March 2026
Miracle Patient, believe in this more than you’ve ever believed in anything else in your whole life! The mind is more powerful than one can imagine. Let your mind eliminate the cancer! Let me know how it goes? Tell Dr Tyson hello from Mr October from Panama! There’s more to this story if anyone is interested in hearing about it?

6 Reactions@dorothyb1153 Hi Dorothy. It seems you have some good options. You have the clinical trial in your back pocket. Let your body do its job and keep the cancer at bay. You have a great team behind you. I know from experience you will be closely watched and if anything comes up, it will get checked out quickly.

3 Reactions@brianwong57 that’s an amazing and wonderful outcome for you. Dr Tyson is wonderful and I don’t see him again until May. I’ll mention that Mr October sends his greetings. I can’t control all the stress in my life and I’m working on how I absorb or react to it. I take care of my 97 year old mother and my 3 year old granddaughter. The granddaughter is pure joy. The minute I walked into Mayo Clinic I knew I found my place. ❤️

Dorothy, are you familiar with any form of meditation or spiritual practice? This is the other part that I left out.
