Anastrazole and teeth problems
Has anyone else had teeth problems while taking the Anastrazole? I have been taking it since 8/2021 but my teeth are suddenly chipping and cracking. My front teeth feel different as well. I was told I have to take it for 10 years and am afraid by the end I won't have teeth left - lol! Any comments would be welcome.
Take care!!

@sally484 The Zometa is known to affect the jawbone, can develop osteonecrosis if a tooth is pulled. I saw a Dental Oncologist before starting on Zometa, had 360 degree dental scans, the purpose was to detect any dental work needing to be done, and do it before starting on Zometa. I questioned my dentist as this is really scary, he said it's having a tooth extracted that is unsafe, not regular fillings, etc. By the way, if you develop osteoporosis of the jaw, the best treatment is hyperbaric oxygen. I'm a nurse and I used to work in the hyperbaric chamber, bone and soft tissue necrosis, including radiation necrosis are successfully treated with hyperbaric oxygen- frankly nothing else works to heal the tissue or bone.
My dental hygienist is also a breast cancer survivor. She says that AIs cause reduced saliva, and that can lead to dental problems, especially cavities. I'm guessing low saliva could also cause gum problems. I've had a number of broken teeth, but all before I had cancer. None since, fortunately. I'm guessing there's no solution except daily (or more) flossing and brushing and frequent cleanings. I have cleanings every 3-4 months--and yes, it's expensive but I'm hoping to keep my teeth!

4 Reactions@peggydobbs I don’t have any issue with saliva problems. I have a lot of teeth issues as well. But not caused from AI’s. If you have dry mouth try gum chewing or candy sucking. The main thing for me with a lack of saliva is mouth sores. Ugh

1 Reaction@peggydobbs My dentist has breast cancer, and she said that AIs are generally drying. She suggested OTC sugarless gum and hard "candy" but basically she emphasized staying hydrated, with frequent small sips of water. And also, as you note, staying current with cleaning.
