Cipro/Antibiotic question. I am super anxious
I just took a 250 mg pill of Cipro Sunday around 5 pm to help with a UTI. After I took the dose I looked up Cipro to see what family of antibiotics it belonged to, only to find that Cipro can cause a lot of severe side effects with some coming on later after it is taken. I have health anxiety, and am worried that that single 250 mg dose will lead to the severe side effects listed. Apparently people call this pill a poison because it has caused nerve damage, joint ruptures, mental health issues, nervous system issues of all kinds, and even suicide. Does anybody have any input on this pill? Should I be concerned?

@nita378 still taking it, mainly to sleep. Anxiety is pretty much gone, probably after a month. I’ve been under a lot of stress lately, but anxiety is under control. Sleeping, not so much.

1 Reaction@berekann one final question.. may I ask what dosage they gave you? I was prescribed 500 mg tablets twice daily. Thank the Lord I only took one day's dosage before finding out how dangerous it can be for anxiety.
@nita378 mine was also 500mg, twice a day. The Flagyl was a much larger dose than I should have taken, with my low weight so I called them on it and they said to cut it in half. I wish I hadn’t taken it at all, either one.

2 Reactions@berekann so glad for you that you called them on it. We have to be our own advocates sometimes. The drs should know better. We need to be able to trust their decisions for our medications. I thank the Lord Jesus for giving me that uneasy feeling that caused me (and you) to research it before taking another dose. Thanks for your responses. I will be praying fir your insomnia to go away.
@nita378 yes, we do need to be our own best advocates! And on my chart, it said I was taking 10 mg of zolpidem, at the time I was taking 5 mg. From what I’ve read since, taking Cipro with zolpidem is not recommended. So maybe that’s why it stopped working for me.
And, thanks for your prayers about my insomnia.

1 ReactionI was told CIPRO was a very strong antibiotic. I can’t take them because of my anxiety. Terrible side effects.Flagyl is terrible. I was told also no Sulfa drugs caffeinated tea or coffee,or chocolate. My doctors don’t give out antibiotics much anymore unless you have a life threatening condition or bacterial conditions. They kill off all the good gut bacteria and my IBS was worse. So I took probiotics and prebiotics to counteract that. The ones you drink like a smoothie.
I prefer to go for Naturopathic solutions on bad days. and N. D.doctors . They get so much more Chemistry training than M.D.’s I’m lucky and live near the biggest Naturopathic University on the west coast. My daughter worked there ,so I met there for a Vegan lunch and learned allot from students .
Try Reiki and acupuncture. It’s very soothing and relaxing. Their medication helped so much ten years ago when my husband died, and my anxiety was really bad. Few drops of Rescue Remedy in cup of water to sip on helped between medication doses. My cats were even taking that for vet visits and fireworks also Felaway you spray in air for drive to vet .Vet approved . Worked well.
